Quite a few have been shipping into the U.K. recently. I think they'll be much more visible in stores there in the future.
Hoping that the price may come down a bit, if more are coming across the water!
Alan Davey (Psychedelic Warlords, Gunslinger, Meads of Asphodel, ex-Hawkwind), has been championing his 4004 for a while now, over this side of the pond!
Talking with him the other day, he hasn't played his 4001s since! Incidentally - a little snippet of information, his 4001s having had a pretty tough life is virtually retired! It was specially built for him by Ric, using a slab of 64 timber, back in 1987. It looks like it was built, and played non-stop since 64, it is that beaten up now!

Didn't realise the place was such a dive - not a great place to play!
I always worry about playing bars that have a dart board right behind where the bass player stands...

LOL! Thanks Guy - yes, I was strongly considering the 4001 until the '04 came up....just couldn't give in...!
I took it to my local Luthier today, and it plays better than ever. Needed a bit of tweak of the relief, etc...obviously change in climate and the like since it was made and shipped and gigged. I must say it now handles as good as it looks.

Congrats! Beautiful bass.
I'd love to try one with the new thinner neck, but I'm very happy with the beefy-yet-buttery neck on my Mapleglo 4004Cii.
Very cool to see the 4004 series gaining some well-deserved recognition & appreciation.

Just a little update.
Been playing the 4004 for about 10 days now. Went to my local luthier for a set-up last Tuesday - now plays even better.
The more I play it the more I like it - through my bass rig, following the adjustments, it sounds huge. It's got 'the' sound, together with a massive bottom end.
I picked up my 4003 this morning for the first time since getting the 4004, and it makes it feel quite different indeed. I would say the 4004 is definitely easier to play with the contoured edges, etc. It's also quite different how the necks feel, with the 4003 fretboard feeling shorter!
So now we're out of the honeymoon period - it's been gigged, adjusted (which it really needed after the journey it had and the climate changes it's been through), and the overall impression is, I love it! Tone, feel, weight, it's an awesome bass. The way it feels right now, it's instantly become my 'go to' bass.
Just have to make sure I pick up the 4003 from time to time to stop it feeling neglected!
