Jonathan, I hope that deal is working out, so that the beautiful Fretless Turquoise beauty ends up under your Christmas tree ! ! !

Folkie wrote:Yes, the two sound totally different. My 330/12, run through a JangleBox JB2 and into my solid state Fender Princeton Chorus amp, really approaches those early Roger McGuinn tones. But the C63...
I see, thanks Folkie.

I have 2 registered; 4001 and 4003 basses. I should have 3, but I'm waiting until my 330 gets, um, "fixed".

I have owned six but, have only had 5 on a consistent basis. My first RIC, a 366/12, I've had since '02. It was 'born' in April of '67. My second, I bought the same year and is a 325/V59 which I sold a couple years ago. My third, a 380L PZ, I bought ('03) just before [it turns out] they were discontinued. My fourth, a 620/12MB, I bought while I was in Vegas at the one and only Ed Roman's in '05. Number 5 is a 360/6 FG I bought on my birthday in '06 at Apple Music in Portland, Or. Even when I told them it was my birthday, they insisted that I pay for it.

On to number six and my last purchase is a 660/6 in Birdseye Maple, bought earlier this year. I will probably never part with what I have and am seriously mulling over the purchase of a RIC bass. A classic 4001/C64(?) would be nice.
All my RiC's, save for the 325, are registered here on this site.

I've had as many as 8 Rickenbacker basses. I'm down to 6 now. I just could not justify keeping so many and not playing them. The Blackstar I recently sold was a great bass, but I never played her and all she did was collect dust. My 73 4001, I played that bass all the time. What a great instrument!! A forum member inquired and I sold her. I shouldn't have. I miss her almost daily!
I have been playing my USA Spector NS2 quite a bit lately but my Shadow and my Walnut 4002 will always be my favorites.

I have an 2011 4003 FG and a 2005 360 MG that I just picked up.. I have many other basses and a few different guitars by other companys also. I really love some of my "others", but 9 out of ten times I seem to grab a Rickenbacker to play. Im not much of a guitar player, and am really trying to improve. The 360 makes me want to play. What a sound! Im in love with that bridge toaster with the tone knob dialed right up through a Fender blues Deluxe reverb reissue! Jangle for days!

Probably what will happen is that I will sell 1 or 2 of my "orphans" and hook myself up with a 330 12 JG if I can. I think Im hooked!

It won't end up under the tree, unfortunately. I've had some issues gaining access to the cash needed to complete the deal (i'll leave it at that; we can talk about it in person at Jangle Bell Rock next week). Gary so far has been abundantly patient as we try to sort the issue out.

I've had 10 or 11 ricks through the years. 6 is the magic number right now. I enjoy trading up and trying new (to me) instruments. If I'm not totally in love they will probably move along eventually, but I have three that aren't going anywhere: my '82 320 that was bought new and received a PW Ruby makeover in recent years, my '57 tulip combo that's just like the first rick I ever had, and my N*** T***** 325/12 which is unique in Blue Boy.

Currently, I have just
this one, which I'll never sell. It was the second high end guitar I had ever purchased. I have other guitars, both electric and acoustic. All are tools to me, used either on stage or for teaching.
While it would be nice to have a 6 string 360, I have other guitars that fill that function. So I feel like I have every expediency covered with a Rick 12, a Gretsch, and a telecaster.

You do. The only thing I might suggest is to add a hot Gibson with humbuckers to your stable. Les Paul or an SG (which is an affordable top guitar) would definitely add some rockin' grit to your collection.

Or you might like one of the Korean-made PRS SE models; much more affordable, but plenty of fat humbucker tone!

I have to say that I'm really glad that I DO own more than one Rick - at the moment, only my 4001v63, my 4002 and my 4003/s8 are in playable condition. The perennial problem with buying over the internet is that you're never quite sure what you'll get (even from supposedly safe sources!

)
* My 4001 "Shadow" fretless (apparently made in 1976, no reliable S/N to confirm) needed a new nut and still needs a lot of work doing to correct the negative neck angle (causing an unplayable action) and resolve some electrical problems;
* my 1982 4001 fretless needed extensive work to the fingerboard and neck angle to get it playable;
In such cases, (in one, the eBay advert was, at best, misleading), I only discovered the problems with the instruments once they arrived. I do wonder sometimes whether these guys who sold me those instruments have any consciences, or might even regret selling them if they only knew how well they now play (or will play) once I've paid good money to local luthiers to make them playable.
Whilst my patience with some online sellers wears very thin (
one of whom is a senior member here - he knows who he is
), I'm confident that once I get the necessary work done, I'll have five Ricks that I'll be happy to work with live. I'm just glad I had other instruments to fall back and rely upon, to get me through gigs...

I had to laugh at these posts. I've had mine since 1969 and you got to be a masochist to have more than one of these quirky *** guitars.
