Scully supplied nice pix of Geddy with some of his Rick collection for the possible second edition. But that may never happen. The book has sold well, but not sold out. Until it does, the publisher won't want to do a new edition, and even then, may not want to right away.

I saw Rush in May of '77 supporting All the Worlds a Stage with STYX and Starcastle. It is why at 54 I play bass to this day. I have seen Rush so many times over the years the images are bluring but the postings of Geddy and Alex with the double necks brings me right back to being 17 again. Ironically they are playing here in St Paul tonight but I can not go. I know I am going to live to regret this if this is their last tour.

Sepp sent the elecronics to me to rebuild the pots with new internals matched to the original specs and rewire the harness. I think I also replaced the lead wire on the neck pickup.
Dane,

Correct you did the pot rebuilds and possibly the jack as well as the neck pup lead. You've rebuilt so many of my vintage electronics, It's hard to keep track of what was done which bass! The caps on the 68 were all there. The harness was speaker wire, remember?? You also rebuilt the ground loop with cloth covered wire.

Oh that's right. I knew you helped out with that bass. Nice job, Dane!

That is very cool info to have, and a very nice review! Loved the pics too, I saw Rush 4 times in the '70s but I don't recall him playing a fireglo doubleneck, it was white...

But I wonder about that pic of Geddy with the Traynor, is that a "Snow Dog" on his t-shirt?

No, the Fireglo 4080/12 is not one of his originals, or meant to look like his originals which were White and Jetglo.

Very Cool shot! One question. Does this bass not have the CB binding? It looks like (aged) white binding in the photo.

Also look at the cabinet badges they say "dirk" and are a play on the Ampeg logo. These guys are great fun.

It should have checker binding, and probably does; the shot is not close enough for the camera's pixels to discern the checker pattern. That's the thing about checker binding; it can be appreciated when viewing the instrument close up, but it just merges into gray at a distance. Take my avatar over there (right). That's also a '68 and has checker binding, but you can't see it in such a small image.

Bruce,

That is a great foto!! Thanks for posting. I don't think I'll get a personal foto from Skully. He's a bit busy and while it was great to "bs" with him the other night, he has far more important things to do over the next few months than remember to snap a foto for me and send it.

Woody, yup she does have checkered binding but you just can't tell from that foto. You can see her "tiger strips" but not the binding detail.

Did he borrow it back from the Museum of Civilization near Ottawa - where it has resided since 2003? Or is this a "new" JG 4080?? :P

It seems to have all the same mods - bridge and guitar pick ups changed - as the one he used in the 70s.

Apparently I hear the museum are being jerks and don't want to give it back. The current JG one is a Larry Davis refin.
