Just a thought - How about some info about the differences between the different pickups. (Toaster Top, Hi-Gain, Humbuckers).
Also, differences in the neck width measurements (4-strings, 5-strings, 8-strings, 4003 vs. 4004 etc.)

The book on neck widths will be about the size of War and Peace! I suggest a separate volume!

A chart of some of these various changes could be useful, though. One showing general trends as there are lots of variations within even short time spans that would, indeed, require at least a pamphlet to go along with the book.

It might be nice to ask the seller of the 4005/6 LH FG on eBay if you can use the pictures of it:

I've just devoured 1st ed. over the holidays. Great stuff Paul, it's an amazing resource you've put together that makes comparing the details a page flip away. I never realized how big the early stocks were, or how much Paul had sanded off. Great picture of Cisneros too, imho he really deserves a signature bass one of these days...maybe for the 3rd edition. Thanks for the hard work.

I was first introduced to Rickenbacker basses by a poster on my teenage wall of Cliff Burton, bellbottoms flapping in the wind, so personally I'd have loved to have seen his 4001 in the mods section. The EB pickup at the neck being such a frequent mod, and the pickup replacing the mute being such an odd one.

IIRC, All did get a custom one-off bass made for him last year.

Great seeing you too, Jeff, and Shari and Ron. For those not in the "know," Jeff (and Shari) and Ron O'Keefe were instrumenta (pun obviously intentional) in the making of the first edition of the book, and are helping with photos for the 2nd edition. What will they be? Stay tuned (pun again)!
