Yeah try a jumper without desoldering the cap. The originality of the wiring will be less altered should you decide to keep the cap in there. Keep us posted about the result of your quick surgery.

Here I am again. Not for long, though - it's 1:30 p.m. in Lisbon and I'm turning in.
But before I go, one: that routing near the treble p.u. on your 4080 is a total mistery to me, Jeff; two: I've boosted the output from both treble pickups on my 4080 not by disabling the .0047 but rather by replacing the original bar magnets with much stronger ones.
'See' you in a few hours.

Hi again, here is an update..
Jeff, AWESOME 4005! WOW!
It is so fantastic to see all these great basses. and also so Incredible the knowedge base (or bass...) that you all have. I am honored and very priviledged to learn from you. I have been playing bass for 20 odd years, and I learned a gob just this one day about things I really love. this is a blast. thanks again all and I am looking forward to more conversations and seeing your awesome basses.
as for the 4080, I did defeat the cap. and It really came alive! I just added a small jumper. and both the Guitar, and very noticably the Bass, just ring! I can remove it in a few moments (I used red wire so I would not get confused in the future to take it out...) but it really sings!
I like the Stronger magnet Idea. and I may pursue that Idea in the future, Sergio, (by the way, how do I make the accent above your "e"? sorry about my ignorance...) it would be the most effective and true fix.

again, many thanks, maybe someone will have some idea about the other routing hole... (look a hollow body 4080.... maybe it was to remove excess weight.... or magnet or pick storage... or some idiot decided to add a third pickup and missed...or some other obsurd thing. anyway, the pick guard covers it...)
again, thanks one and all. talk to you tomorrow!
very best wishes and keep groovin!
J

Er... A correction is in order. In my last post I meant '1:30 a.m.'. Obviously.
Thanks, Paul. Well, on my 4080, originally the 6-string bridge pickup in particular had very low output. The new, much stronger magnet makes it sound noticeably louder than the neck pickup now. And, the cap stays...
Jeff: I believe that unless your PC keypad has a key with said accent, you can't write my name correctly. It's unimportant.
You do have quite a collection of ruthlessly killingly beautiful Rickenbackers. Thanks for sharing it with us.
