Not to pick a nit, but it seems that "Watch Your Step" was released in 1993. Assuming that's true (and it's not a re-release date or some such), it's unclear how Lennon could have lifted the lick from that source. Then again, Mr. Parker could be doing a remake of an older tune. In The Beatles as Musicians, Walter Everett traces its lineage from "My Girl" and "Money", among others.

Of course, it's possible that he came up with the lick on his own, and any influence was subconscious. I mean, I wrote something that sounds just like the Black Crowes' "She Talks To Angels" 4 months before the album came out (open tuning and all). I sure didn't lift that, but there are only so many ways to string 3 chords together. Given Lennon's track record of composition, I'd be hesitant to made unsupported charges of plagiarism. Contrast this to Led Zeppelin; given their record of plagiarism, I'd be hesitant to made unsupported charges of originality. Image

At least now they are crediting some of the original writers, Willy Dixon, Willy Dixon, and Willy Dixon.

I thought that the riff was lifted
from some Buck Owens song.

I had heard Day Tripper was similar to a Buck Owens tune also.
Then there is Spacey Invaders by the Pretenders where the break is the Day Tripper riff with each note given the same beat .

Well, I wanted to use my 660th post to put up a photo of my 660/12, but we all know what they look like.
I was in GC (Hawthorne) today and played a 360/12 and a 325v58(with cracked pick guard. I didn't do it). Man I liked that v58. I don't have a problem nailing any notes, and can bend notes from here to etertnity on it. What a trip it would be to play that live, complete with solos.
Anyway, for some miraculous reason they had the Beatles on the house system (!) and lo and behold Daytripper comes on. I'm stickin' by my guns. I swear there's a strat in the middle part. It is so strat. I'm familiar with that Pretenders song and was miffed the first time I heard it. When I was told the Daytripper riff was someone elses', it was the late '60's I believe the tellee was a country music fan. However, like others, I've come up with riffs that suddenly I'll hear much later in someone else's song, so stuff happens.

This thread started 9 months before I got my first Rick...

Now it's 4 years, eight months, sixteen days, and, er...eighteen and a half hours? that I've had my '04 660/12.

The only Rick I've had longer than five years is my '64 1000, currently with PW. I got that guitar in the late 90's from a guy in Seattle who used it as a backup to his 325 in a Beatle band.

18 years for my 381/12 V69

I bought my AZ blue 360 WB back in April of `85 (11/84 manufacture date-I had to wait for it a few months), but sold it in `95, got it back in `05 (it sat in the friend I sold it to's closet for ten years), so while I bought that one first, I've actually had it in my possession fewer years than my 381/12. Go figure.

3 years for the `79 JG 4001 I bought in `83
