Thanks Brian. Just killing time waiting for this bass to get here and having fun digging for information about necks and strings and early Rickenbackers. I have only owned a Rickenbacker Bass since I first posted. So I am learning all the time still. Facinating guitars!
I figured it would make an interesting read at the very least. Which it apparently has!
There seem to be a bunch of guy's who tinker like we do. and certainly we must be amongst friends with any rickenbacker projects in here.
I did not intend to sound as though this was overanalyzing;
But there really are a lot of posts about this project that has not happened yet.
I am kinda relentless when it comes to honing my skills or knowledge. It is sometimes tiresome to get questions answered or make your point through typed text.
I guess it comes down to that critical question that I wanted actual facts about "will that early neck style work". And what exactly is the structural difference between these necks? I gave up on the paint question it is complicated? there are so many different veiwpoints.
I have what I need now concerning the neck strength and paint from John Hall, so the neck will not "ultimately" be my nemesis it will be matching that yellowed paint. Going to make one stab at getting it to match. If that does not work I will refinish the entire thing.
I will post the photo's as best I can
Hope you will find it an interesting Rickenbacker conversion when I get that far.

I am very glad someone is going to take a shot at doing this. I have also wondered over the 'potato' (I always called it the frogfoot) headstock shape and wanted one of my own, too. It's quite a standout feature for a Rickenbacker 8-string. I WANT ONE. I MUST HAVE ONE. I will be following your progress with this...

Randy,
I didn't mean the "overanalyzing" thing in any way critical. Just to clarify....I just meant that I tend to just jump in with only the most basic plan and work out my problems as they come. You are going about this the right way and getting as much info/help as you can prior to even picking up a tool. I applaud your efforts and the assistance of this forum.....Cheers !
