I'd been quoted two different prices on that one, Mike.....they also have a 4005/6 floating around somewhere....The 3rd time I'd called, on a Sunday ,one of the "salesmen" put me on hold for about 5 minutes , came back and asked me what double bound meant, in the same sentence , he told me that Rickenbacker never made the 4005 in a 6 string.....

the 4005-6 ... ya they don't even exist ...

I know he still has that one, Chris. It was mine before I knew about and joined this group. I'll find out and let you know. Last he told me was $6000.

I've had alot of salesmen leave me simply speechless with their lack of knowledge.

That was what he quoted me the first time....then it went up to "I think around $9000.00" ......I got tired of foolin' with 'em .....

Scott: Same here, as a matter of fact, I would have given him the info regarding the 6 from Smiths book, but I thought all he'd actually hear would be "wah wah wah wah...." Didn't want to waste my breath...

I was the laughing stock of entire music store staff several years ago when I mentioned that I had a fretless Fender Precision with a maple neck and fingerboard. "Fender has never made a fretless with a maple fingerboard" they said. You could have heard a pin drop the next day when I walked in with it.

Did you take it in to "waylay" those idiots, or to show them physical evidence that said bass did, in fact, exist...??

hey ... idiots have to work somewhere ... so put them all in music stores where they can't hurt nobody ...

I took it in just to embarrass the fools.

I always cringe when a co-worker or a friend mentions that they just bought their son or daughter a guitar from a shop without talking to me first. I always ask "what kind of case came with it"? ..And they usually say the same thing, "oh, it didnt come with a case, it came in a box". :0

I don't buy from stores anymore unless it is just too good to pass up.

I have gained respect with all the local shops, I get a phone call whenever anything interesting walks in. Thats how I found my '76, the store owner new it was modified, and didnt want to mess with it, called me, and I walked away with it for $275.00.

I tore it apart, put a finish on it, Ebay'd the dimarzio pickup, had Pickguardian make me a 4000 guard, and now have a 1976 4001/4000 conversion.
With a killer neck I might add.

well, today's the first day I've read this thread...you have to have time on your hands to get through all the bass threads...I've said it elsewhere, but again, congrats, Chris! It (your 4005)looks darn near perfect! May all our wishes (or Joneses) come true!

...and in a few months everyone will be looking for a 4005
