Scott, The Epi was a good instrument, but when I received it it was strung with roundwounds and did NOT sound good. A set of flats changed all that. I always played with the neck pickup only and the tone rolled off, sounded good. Nice neck, good tuners(better than on a Hofner), and the bass felt very "solid". The flame on the top looked great. Good case too. I used it for about 3 years before we started making good money and I bought a Hofner.

I've got a Turser, and it is a great little bass for the money. For the last year it was on loan to a buddy, so I forgot how much fun it was. After I got it back, I changed strings to Fender Nylons, and does it ever sound good. What a breeze to play, too. The other flats were a little stiffer, so the sustain and playability lacked slightly. There is never great sustain, but what an improvement with the nylons. It is extremely deep and bass-heavy; it is hard to find a better open-e sound.

Like Ronn, I like it with the neck pickup on full. It really nails the Beatles thump, due to the hollow-body construction. For $275, case and all, it is a heck of a good investment, and adds a whole other sound to your arsenal. Even though the body is plywood, they have the outside looking like real wood, so it looks awesome in person. The finish is beautiful for such an inexpensive bass. And talk about light and playable!

The hardware isn't great quality, but I didn't expect it to be when I bought it. I've played the Epi Viola, and the Turser is every bit as good, and has the Hofner-style headstock to boot.

"...too-tall Ringos..."!!! HA!

Stop being taller than me!!!

Gotta admit, I love nit-picking, too, but how picky can I get before it's just stupid?

"Paul" just looks so wrong playing a Hofner V63 instead of a V62!!!

I see the Epi Viola and Turser basses mentioned. Any comments on the Rogue violin bass?

Once while in Vegas I took a cab across town to see a "Beatles Band".... they were so horrible that the thought they could pass off black cowboy boots for Beatle-boots. It was sad.

One of the best Beatle immo bands I ever saw was the old "1964 as The Beatles" when they used to play around the Boston/NH area in the mid-late 80s.
