I understand everyone's feelings here, but please keep in mind that if your property is stolen and you locate it, it's up to you to contact the authorities and let them determine how to proceed. State laws differ, and we don't know the circumstances of how the seller came to acquire it. But it's up to JH to take action or not.
JH said that the seller knows it was stolen. That tells me that either he has initiated whatever actions he can take, or that he's decided it's not worth the trouble.

I also wrote the guy asking for any info on the instrument's provenance. No reply. And the auction goes on.

He pulled it off the auction block, probably started feeling remorse realizing that no one in their right mind would buy this guitar and be able to have a clear conscience.

The guy e-mailed me a long e-mail with a strange and believable story ... he asked me not to post the e-mail or names ... he claims to have come by it honestly and wants Ric to have it back ... we'll see how it all plays out ... probably nothing will happen until after Namm ...

He seems to be honest ... He claims to have purchased a speaker cabinet or amp from a music dealer, and when it arrived it was not as described so he wanted to return it, but the dealer offered the guitar in question as a substitute. He contacted Ric and they verified that it actually was a prototype ... then recently it came up that it was at one time stolen ... he has been in contact with Rickenbacker and the police in southern California trying to resolve this situation ...
that's sort of a short version of the story ...

Does anyone know whatever happened to this guitar? Did it find its rightful owner?
