I think you've got one of the biggest collections going. You blow us all away.

Wow thats a really nice welcome!!! I know (top fella) Bjorn from "rickbeat" has put my pictures up so you must have seen the brood there! apologies for a)my terrible photography and b)for getting here late!!! I am a terrible technophobe so its partly that which stopped me hunting out this site (beyond ebay and email I get palpitations near a pc), but will keep reading all the excellent backlog of top stuff here as fast as I can! As I said, I'm humbled by the knowledge on show here about this great subject - you guys should write a book!

Simon, have to admit I shook my head in disbelief at your collection, VERY nice. That 8-string makes a lot more sense if it is going to be painted. Looking forward to seeing the Azure 8! (there's one I have never seen, an 8-string Azureglo?) Welcome to the Forum, looking forward to your input!

I think with hindsight I've just been VERY lucky with my collection - I say that because I got into bass as a 15 year old in 1980, and low and behold here in the UK (that's me home!) just as I fell for Rickenbackers a LOT of daft people here were selling them for a synthesizer in that grim decade, and cheap too. I really love 76-78 4001's (all my early punk influences played them - many may prefer the earlier basses, but its what you first longed for, I suppose), and from that the madness grew!!! Mind you that chap Jaymi has had 70???!!!!! WOW. I can't quite manage to part with them and move on, that's my problem...

Welcome Simon! I have gazed at your collection many a time. Whats the story on that apparent transparent green 4005?

I got my initiation into things Rickenbacker at an ealry 14 in the UK as well.. Bought my first in 73 (MA) and only had two others. I'd happily take another MA series 4001.

Although since meeting this bunch of recidivists I've now embarked on my 'Fireglo Project", own one of each Ric bass in .......... Hmmmmmmm Fireglo !!!

And where abouts in the UK are you at?

Me ... used to be Gourock in Scotland, then Portsmouth in Hampshire. Southern California now.

Hi again - that green semi is the one fraud in my collection! Made by myself after I discovered I had all the fittings necessary (with a little compromise at the bridge). It now has two pickups and is (you guessed it) blue. It figures regularly with the Mod music one of my bands plays, and got the royal seal of approval when the great Pete Townshend signed the back of it for me! I wanted to celebrate my plunge into debt after buying John Entwistle's 4005 bass at Sothebys, and since regrettably I can't realistically risk gigging with that I drew around it, and er, knocked up another!!! (I promise I won't do it again!)

Simon, good to see you finally here. Your collection of Rics is very impressive and I was wondering how you'd never made it here...
