Good name for a band, that....... '#43'. The obvious questions would come thick and fast:

Huh??

Got any of that stuff left??

Who the hell..........??

What were you thinking when..........??

I'll weigh in here with the names of the bands I was in back in the 60s.

1) The Cellmates (not much difference between school and the nick!!)

2) The Tomato Sauce Expansion (well..... it was the 60s, wasn't it???)

3) The Boldfingers (need I say more?...... you should have seen the artwork on the bass drum!!!)

Hmmm...... 'Those were the days, my friend.....'

The first band that I played with while in high school was named Geneva Convention. I think we had two or three paying gigs. A few years later, I sat in once with the bass player's new band, which he had named BFD.

We were practicing at my friend's house, and as 13-year-olds, we soon got bored and started a water balloon fight which started in the bathroom and worked its way down the hall into my friend's bedroom. His mother became very angry at us as she shrieked, "You're nothing but a bunch of young savages!"

So, we just to become: The Young Savages.

We eventually grew tired of that name, and since there were Beatles, Turtles and such, we became the Toadz. To make matters worse, we wore bright orange sweatshirts and pale blue denim jeans.

Sometime later, our manager (yes, we hit the bigtime - we had a Manager!) suggested the name: The Blood of Mercy. Oh, we loved that. We weren't sure what it meant, but it sounded good. Our manager made up business cards with an Olde English font. Problem was, the Olde English "c" looked like an "r." So our cards read, "Blood of Merry." We dumped the manager.

Our second manager came up with a great name: Iron Butterfly. We were thrilled with the name and had new cards printed. A few days after getting our new cards, we happened to be listening to the radio. Imagine our shock when we heard, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida."

Yes, but did you buy any mansions with the royalty money?

Nope. Instead I got drafted into the Army. I had my guitar shipped to me after 4 weeks of Basic Training, whereupon we formed a jug band. Since we could only practice in the latrine, with its great acoustic properties (tiled walls), we became: The Incredible Second Platoon Latrine Band.

I play with different groups of people, in one of them one of the singers wanted to call it The Trots, unfortunately his girlfriend who happens to be the other singer didn't like it. I don't know why, we thought it was a great idea.

In college I wrote a paper on the Black Plague. Somewhere in there I mentioned the effect on "Urban Peasants". My professor seemed to think that if one is a peasant, then they are not urban. Whatever! So thus was born the Urban Peasant League!!! (In the 80's, having "League" in the name was cool, I think).

I like a lot of the 60's names, The Shags, The Remains, The Barbarians, etc.

The cellmates, haha!

1st band (school); Grip & The Vice Squad. I have no idea how we arrived at it (ie as bass player, I was de facto out of the loop at the time).

Punk band - I hate to say it , in fact I won't, the full name was pretty rude even then. it was ---- & the Hairies. The --- refers to a body part. Aah, the 70's!

Current Band - the Band From County Hell, derived from the Pogues' track Boys from County Hell.

I've got a friend in a band in Austin. The leader is a veterinarian. Hence "Dr. Pete and the Heartworms". Love that one.

8th grade - The Swing'n Surfers (drummer, trombone, sax, clarinet - I played trumpet... (Dixieland Jazz)
LOL... especially, since we were at least 1200 miles from the ocean!

"No.9" was the high school band...

I want my son to go with "tommy's gone postal" but his band likes "the sauce"...

When one group I was jamming with recently (and now disbanded) was considering names, I came up with "Viagra Falls". Had we continued, that may well have been the band name.

Well, until the copyright/trademark lawyers contacted us ...
