Yes they do now, for a while the headstock was either solid maple or had a flamed maple veneer! like this!

Hi Warren, I'm in Ramat Aviv, near Tel Aviv University. Where did you live? And yes I still have that old Gretsch! It's a '64 model 6070 that I got for dirt cheap (like $200).
Didn't mean to hijack your thread Marc... back to the 4004 pickguard discussion!
I'd consider a pickguard shape like that on the late 50's 4000 - in clear plexi backed with gold spray paint. Like in page 109 of the Smith book.

I love that Gretsch Ilan, I always wanted one of those, how does it sound and play? I also want one of those Ric bass amps along with his BB 4000. haha!

Haha... I knew you would at some point!

A sister bass of mine, if a little older and wiser... like it's owner!
(Note Flamed maple wings opposed to Walnut).
Always a favourite Scott mate!

These are fine basses. Every forum member needs one in their collection.
The funny thing about this bass, is that my original finish choice was mapleglo, and then about a month into the wait period, I found out that they changed from the walnut wings to maple. So, I called my dealer and changed to tranny red, and still got the bass in 6 months to the day.
At that particular time, 4004 CII's were virtually made of un-obtanium. And I had one of the very few here on the forum. Im real glad to see this model finally falling into appreciative hands.

I noticed that Mike Parks has sold quite a few in Blueburst and it's only March.
