I think it was one of Bryan's TTT replacement chords. Whatever it was, I felt like whacking my hand like Dr. Strangelove that day.

Here's a shot of me performing with my Bigsby B5 equipped 330FG at the late Jeff Healey's nightclub here in Toronto.

And how old are you, like 14? All I had was a Danelectro I bought for $75 when I was your age. Oh, to be young and have parents with money.
Kinda rude...How do you know he didn't save up for his guitars? My parents sure didn't buy me any of the nice guitars I have now. I bought my first really expensive guitar around fifteen or sixteen with no help from my parents.

It makes me a bit jealous, too, to see that...when I was 14, I wanted a Farfisa Combo Compact soooo bad. But at $700.00, it represented 2 months' pay for my father; not a chance. I saved up for 6 months and bought an $80.00 Farfisa reed organ (233?).
OTOH, as the father of a lovely little girl who turns 11 in 45 minutes, I can and do give her the best of everything, including our love. She's too young for a Rick right now, though...Maybe at 14 she'll get the ES-16 I bought for her when she was 8. Only if she wants it and demonstrates a desire to continue learning guitar. She's all wrapped up in French lessons right now.
It matters little in the end who buys our guitars, as long as we are raised with love and lots of attention and education of the right sort, especially with good examples.

The first is most recent, with my old standby '93 330 and new 325c64.
Second is me playing my ex-325c58, now with Paul W.
Just FYI, I paid for all of my guitars in full from summer job money. Of course, my parents pay the bills and college tuition!
And I definitely don't miss that long hair...

Exactly. I was 15 when i got my 4001. Only bass I had given to me was the one I started on. Then I bought my Dean Edge 5. Then I saved and bought my 4001, with MY money. No help.

hater of cameras that I seem to be, someone else took some pics of me and my punk band Classix t'other day, have a look/laugh if you like at:
http://picasaweb.google.com/neil.lawsonuk/classix
he takes better pictures than I play obviously (hey its punk so that's acceptable), and Rick bass fans may have fun guessing which model I'm playing.... there's a mapleglo 78 4001 hanging behind me, but the one in use has a few red herrings in its appearance..........!
also, the drummer (who's half my age!!!) has just bought a stainless steel John Bonham drum kit, which can be heard in space.

Hey, Simon! Long time no hear. I pictured you as being much older thinking that it would have taken some time to accumulate your fabulous Rick bass collection.
Yes, that bass is a puzzle. Let's see . . . an S model according to the fretboard . . . skunk stripe would put it '72 or later 4001 . . . but that vintage S model were usually set neck and the stripe wouldn't continue through the body . . . "walnut" headwings are stained on or replacements, right? Hmm. But then the skunk stripe could be painted on, too . . . .
Oh, do tell!

Great pics Simon. If you could ever manage to get some pics posted of your January 1973 4001 azureglo there would be some happy people around here (like me!)...cheers.

that's a compliment Paul!!! - er actually IAM much older....... (my rotosound bill keeps me looking young...!!).VERY close on the bass too............!! actually my guess is it started life as a 4000 (kneck p/u route looks a little too handmade), previous owner in the US loved Chris Squire and did a pre CS style rework on it.... sold it across the pond to me... over the years his respray didn't survive my scissor kicks (er, its punk remember, and my 43 year old knees gave way a couple of times catching the odd amp/mic/singer), so its now stripped back (few stickers hide the dents - not all put there by me!!), and now its home to odd pickups, etc from the spares box as the mood takes me - a toaster here, a hi gain there etc... set neck, so yes, wings/body skunk added until a proper respray comes its way .
And hi Mark! - two azureglos are coming with me for gigs saturday and sunday (OK I confess its blue shirt weekend as the black stuff is in the wash), so if there's a camera handy I'll pass on details!!!!!
