In the 60's I dropped by a kid's place where a makeshift group were playing guitars in the basement's furnace room. One guy had put new strings on the guitar but didn't clip the ends off. He said "watch this" as he moved the guitar so the long string ends approached the furnace duct. A huge fat spark jumped between the instrument and the duct.

Many decades later and after a lengthy career in the electrical power industry I can tell you that it was a serious shock hazard. It was scary to see a big blue spark jump between guitar and metal duct. I can only imagine how painful it would be to receive that sort of contact shock via your lips!@!

Over the years I've refused to play any gear where 3 wire grounding was not in place. I'm so glad the amp builders moved away from 2 wire power cords and the delightful "ground" toggle switch. BTW, I did have my fair share of jolts in the 60's when playing on a concrete surface, even when I had shoes on...and I wasn't doing any singing into a mic either.

the mic thing happened to john wetton twice during his tenure with uriah heep. he fell hard on his knees injuring them. read that in circus mag or hit parader back in the '70's.

For me it was the flagpole in either Kindergarten or the first half of first grade - too long ago to remember.

6-hour marathon SXSW gig. The Eggmen plus special guests. Every Beatles song, with at least one ukelele playing at all times. It was a long one but the weather was nice, and we didn't wear any costumes, which was a nice change!

Ronn, is that a V63 you are playing? Or a 4003?

It's an '80 4003, bought it new in 1980 for $800 w/OHSC. It's a beautiful FG, and considering the bands I've been in, the bass is in fantastic shape. Got to be one of the earliest lefty 4003s, I'd guess.
