Dave, did that mid '73 come from Mike Parks? I seem to remember a similar one there.

Flamed and birdseye, for sure.

Melissa, that 381 (? - I'm still learning) is just awesome!

As for staining the wings, I would have them cut off and walnut applied.

Correct, that's a 381v69 to be specific.

John, how do you tell it is a V69?

John, the original 381's were made in very limited numbers from about '68 (prototypes?) to '71. They were reissued in 1987 under the name 381v69, so any recent one would be a v69.

Melissa's is pretty clearly a newer one, you can tell from the non-ambered CV and also from the toasters - 90% of the original 381's had first generation non-buttoned higains. It seems like these guitars were sort of the testing ground for Electro's new pickups.

No shame in calling her guitar a 381 - just trying to educate you further on the skinny-stringed thingies. Image

Ya better run, Charly!

I felt no shame, just wanted to learn more. Thanks for the explanation. Sure is a beaut, and I've always liked the carved top and the CB binding on them.

I take it that it was a 4003/5 made into a "v63/5 with the pickups and pickguard changeout? Nice!
