IF RIC wants to make any more special instruments or sell them only overseas. Of course, they have every right to do whatever they want.
However, I certainly don't want JH ****** off at me or in general but I disagree. One can certainly purchase something and still complain about it. That is our right as consumers.
And I will use his car analogy. And the other funny thing is color entered into these situations also.
About 12 years ago I purchased a car that was just introduced. It fit our needs at the time perfectly and we were able to get it at a great price. But it was only available in white. We purchased the car but I was still envious when I eventually saw others driving around the same car in a cool racing green color.
And it happened again three years ago. We wanted to buy a Honda Pilot when they first came out. They were very popular and there was a long waiting list. (Sound familiar?) But our local dealer had a few in three color choices: black, white or "sea foam" (kind of a greenish blue).
We got the sea foam. Can't say I'm thrilled with the color. At least it's easy to find in a parking lot.
Speaking of insurance, by the way, I just checked with my ins. company. It gets complicated. And for instruments that are worth more on the market than what they were purchased for, they said that I should get them appraised. Anyone ever do that?

Greg:
AMEN! Very nicely said. Boston fan I hope?
Brian:
You know, as sad and embarrassing as it is to say, I didn't even think of that. I don't have a local RIC dealer that can do that for me, but my LONG DISTANCE dealers in the mid-atlantic region I'm sure could help me out. THANK YOU.
Bob, Amen to you too!
John,
I apologize if I came off as complaining, that wasn't my intention. I'm oversensitive to the loss issue being we suffered a recent loss to flood damage, and my hurricane panels are already hung and ready for action, again.
My Rickenbackers are my sole & my most prize possessions. They are the ONLY things that are mine and mine alone, when my daughter doesn't try to BORROW one, that is. Sorry, I know that sounds kind of selfish, but it is true.
I waited a VERY LONG time (24 years to be exact) to reach a point in my life where I am blessed enough to have more than one RIC. I try my best to convey my (sometimes over heated emotions) clearly and concisely. Sometimes, they don't come through clearly in print. I'm hear because I love what you do. PERIOD.
This forum is the reason for flaming my new found obsession. It's great to be able to speak to other people who have the same love for your products as I do. This forum was instrumental in motivating me to purchase and/or order 5 new RIC basses in the past 18 months. That may not seem like a big number to many folks here, but for me,
that's huge.
Yes, I compare and note likes/dislikes between the models, yeah, I'd like to see some changes but if I didn't like what I was getting for my money, I wouldn't have made the purchase to begin with. It's also really neat when a suggestion made here actually makes it into production. The 4003FL side dots come to mind. Where else can you do that? Anyway, we can aggree that we disagree. I've placed my vote of confidence with my order for the 4003DCM.
Thanks again.
Andrew: BINGO. Thank you.

I just got back from vacation and Wow!!!
Early on I questioned about the case and certificate,,,I just wanted to know what to expect upon delivery.
As I stated over at the RIC forum, "It could come in a gig bag for all I care". I was just wondering what to expect, thats all.
I apologize if I started some kind of argument.

Mark: I appreciate your comments. They are a window into the fascinating world of consumer behaviour. Why do we buy things anyway?
While it may be the right of those who purchase items to complaint about what they have just bought, it does beg the question of why the item was purchased in the first place.
By the same token, if the need is great, supply and demand will sometimes have us purchase things that will suffice, even if we are not enchanted with them.
I consider that an exclusiveness factor is in play here. To use your example,I am wondering if a purchaser of a "Sea Foam" model automobile would look at it any differently if it was one of only 75 ever made?

One can certainly purchase something and still complain about it.
Yes, if you've bought the item already and find you didn't get your moneys worth or the item is a lemon, but you really can't complain about something that you don't have yet and no one is twisting your arm to buy.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS!
Jeeze...what a bunch of whiners. If ya want a silver case, buy one..a horseshoe..buy one(if ya can find it) checkered binding and full width inlays..send your Anniversary model off to Dale Fortune. Complaining about 75th Anniversary model content here, where John Hall will read it, is like yelling "BOMB" in an airport. You won't accomplish anything but probably cause all of us to lose something. Doesn't anyone remember the 4004cii5 discussions/debates/or whatever? Brian Doyle Murray said it best in Caddyshack.."Keep it up guys and you'll be replaced with golf carts".

Just a note on the whole insurance issue. Take a number of photos of the guitar, it's special features and a close up of the serial number. While I have a number of guitars my wife's harp is far more expensive to replace and we a seperate insurance policy for musical instruments through Erie. With the photos you can prove in a visual fashion what the guitar was if it is stolen or destroyed in a fire, flood. By the way I appear to have lost out in the 75th Annie sweeps but wanted to be helpful to you lucky bastards.

I do love that John and Ben Hall post here along with others from the Ric camp. I appreciate their expert input and humor BUT I also think that we should be able to post our opinions whether they are good or bad. I don't necessarily agree with some of the complaints posted in this thread but they are valid for the Forumite that posted them and they should be allowed to do so without "fear".
It's just my opinion but it does seem at times that you have to walk on eggshells here to not offend those at Ric. Being rude and disrespectful is one thing but differing opinions and healthy discussion can be a good thing. People that are passionate about anything tend to get overzealous. Yelling "BOMB" in an airport is a little more drastic than saying that you have an issue with a product produced. Rather than not posting or being driven away John Hall simply retaliated with his opinion which is the way it should be. If anyone is too sensitive to read an opinion board with out being freaked out then they have bigger issues to deal with.
I'm not trying to cause waves. I censor my posts the best I can to try not to be offensive but I still want to share my opinions....good and bad. Otherwise all we have is a "stepford-fanboy" site.

Brian: Your point is taken, however, the price of complete openess is that it sometimes hurts or offends others. This is always a judgement call, and that is where the admin comes in.
Appreciate that for every "I have a right to say what I want post", and I don't mean this to be your position, the admin receives a fair number of emails behind the scenes, which sometimes becomes the forum behind the forum.
In the end, it often comes down to how views are expressed that leads to conflict. After six years on this forum and three on alt.guitar.rickenbacker gets to be fairly easy to see which ones are going south in a hurry.

Understood Peter and it is your Forum to guide as you wish and I appreciate your hard work. I am just happy to be part of it. I wasn't advocating complete openess. If I was free to post my opinions openly it would be a complete disaster and I'm sure plenty would be offended.
I just think that at times there is too much legitimate criticism held back because it would upset those we rely on for the instruments we love. As an example....I won't even ask anything about the indefinitely discontinued 4004Cii5 because the discussion goes nowhere and for whatever reason it seems offensive to even inquire about it.
