Jeff,
This 72 is my number 1. Hands down. She does everything well from Wild Cherry's "Play that Funky Music", to The Ramones "Blitzkrieg Bop, to Led Zeppelin's "Bring it on Home" she does it all. Knowing where on the instrument to either pick or play finger style makes a huge difference tonally and this is by far my most diverse sounding and comfortable instrument to play. She felt comfortable the day I got her and pulled her out of her case.
My 2011 4003 is more powerful than her and so is my Shadow. So is my Spector. Neither of those are slouches but neither is as diverse and well rounded as the 72 is. OK, the Spector is quite diverse but not nearly as comfortable to play.

NICE looking '72 Sepp!!!! The body looks SO small. How does its size compare to your '65????
LOVE those crushed pearl inlays!!!!!

I don't think the '72 Rick's body is small. I've never met Sepp, but I suspect he is bigger than we may figure.

To me, the Rick always looks small in Chris Squire's hands, too.

Why does your V63 have it's toaster in the 1" location?

I remember that one. Gary told me that somehow RIC put on the wrong pickguard and duly installed the right pickup on it. It is a V63, and can be made right with a proper pickguard (if that 1/2" vintage position is important).

Well, if that is factory stock then I would not change it. This makes the bass very unique and highly collectable.

Or maybe "slightly unique" or "mostly unique." I like "kinda unique."
After studying Rickenbacker basses for ten years plus, I've learned that "unique" is a word that doesn't apply. In fact, the word "unique" isn't in my book. There may be "one-offs" here and there, but there's always someone trying to replicate a one-off and thus making it no longer "unique." And there's never a way to prove uniqueness: How can we know this is the "only one"?

Tony,
Maywood Inn (Twin Door Tavern) July 24. I think we go on at 900 or 930, if anyone is in the area stop on by!! After this one, we will be "retooling". Our guitard has informed us he is going to pursue other projects after this gig. The search is on for a replacement. It's tough to find a musician that meshes with the dynamic of everyone else.
Body wise the 72 and the 65 are very similar. Upper horn on the 65 and the 72 are close in shape. For the record, I'm 6'03+ and weigh in at 235. I never thought I made a Rickenbacker look as small as Chris Squire does. That guy must have hands like baseball mits. LOL!!

His bass looks tiny in his hands.

...is this at church, cause I see one of these telltale drum-fishtanks!?

Yes Heinpete...it's a fish tank at church, without it the drums just sound nasty in the mix.
