the problem is this has become about personality ... nobody cares who the ceo of Fender is and nobody worries about if they post something that he may not like ...

I come here because I like the look, sound, and quality of Rickenbacker instruments ... wether or not a ceo likes me or not is not really important ... I try to keep my input positive ... but sometimes I have complaints like when will they start building 5 string basses ...

Out of respect for Peter and since I feel like the direction this thread has taken is my fault can we bring this to a close and move on? Not that I'm necessarily in disagreement but I know Peter has nightmares over threads like this. Image

I think that RIC would like to do some of the things people suggest. But, they are a small company dedicated to quality. And they're being stampeded by people who want the product they already have. To try and add to or change models at this point would only make their backlog even worse.

It is to be remembered that the title that started this massive thread is Special 75th Anniversary Guitar. Whatever happened to the wonderful spirit that launch this exciting topic?

These 75 Anniversary instruments have been offered by John Hall to mark a very special occasion, which a considerable number of those from the RickResource Forum attended. Without a doubt the entire event was a success and that this is a memory for all time is evident from the photos and comments made by those who were present. It is one of my deepest regrets that I was not able to attend. Surely those that attended the Event are scratching their heads when they see how this thread has gone.

But even more disappointing to me is to see how this joyous event and this special instrument thread has deteriorated because this limited line of guitars and basses was not good enough for some. When Mr. Hall expressed his chagrin, did the critics step back. No, they persisted.

RIC has offered these instruments even though there is limited if any gain to their Corporation by doing so. But making such a cool series of instruments available has to be a one time joyous thing that enthusiasts will remember right? It would seem not! I can certainly see after the high of the 75th festivities that the comments here would have John Hall wondering why he bothered.

The crux of the matter for me is, are the personal needs of a few worth alienating and undermining the goodwill of the whole reason we are here -- the pursuit of Rickenbacker. Is losing the valuable input of John Hall, who has helped many on this forum out personally with their instruments, worth complaining about a bridge, a case, a certificate, an extra string or an extra model? I would say not.

All of the questions we have about Rickenbackers and RIC are of importance, but is this the time and place to get on our soapbox? Is there not a time to hold them and a time to fold them. To that I say yes.

I have, of course, written Mr. Hall to apologize for the disgruntled few who are unhappy with what they have. In case he has not seen it, John I apologize for the way this thread has gone and would ask that you consider returning to this Forum after you have a well-deserved break. To those who feel they have the right to complain regardless of the circumstances, I assure you there is a price for your comments. I can only hope that you feel it has been worth it. For me, it has not.

I for one do not want to see this thread die on a downer of a note. The issues expressed, regardless of the differences, should be laid to rest and we should return to the celebration of all things Rick.
So wherever you are when you read this, having your morning coffee or enjoying your evening nightcap, I ask that you raise your glass, cup, whatever and toast Rickenbacker on it's 75th anniversary. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!! Now let's keep this thread going until we get our guitars.

Hmmmm.....apparently my post wasn't good enough. Please don't apologize on my behalf. There are "important" and "lesser" members and my place is clear.

Brian: It would seem that I have over-stepped my bounds by apologizing on your behalf. It was improper and for that I am sorry.

Yes, Peter this thread has turned dark, and I am sorry you had to personally apologize to John.

I was disappointed at some of John's comments as I have mentioned before, but I would like to reiterate that my disappointments in the 75th bass was not meant in anyway to upset anyone.

I was going to back off, but I must admit I hopped on the bandwagon, and added some silly post that I am truely ashamed of.

So for all it's worth, I would like to apologize on my behalf for anything I posted that may have offended anyone.

I started this thread, and even though it went in another direction, I too would hope that it gets back on track to celebrating RIC's 75th.

Besides, how many other CEO's would go out of their way to try and make such a small group happy.

Bob: I appreciate your comments. Sometimes were you end up that is more important than where you have been.

If we can make it worse, we can certainly make it better. It will be great to see the photos of these instruments as they make their way to their owners.

For those who are able, why not post a few photos of these beauties here while we wait?
