You would't if you ever played one. The '2' is alive with overtones and color. I have to figure that the pickup placement figures greatly in the sound quality. IMHO NOTHING sounds like a '2'.

I agree Ted. It really sounds sweet through my Traynor with the bass pickup tone rolled back a little. It doesn't sound like any other 4001, or 4003 I ever heard. The pickups are amazingly quiet, and the neck on this bass has to be the best neck of any Ric I have owned. I know one thing, it won't be resting in the case waiting to appreciate in value.

Ted's 4002 sounded awesome through this rig:

That fancy little amp really kicks. My '2' made sounds through it that I had never heard before. At one point during the Confluence, someone was playing some tasty jazz licks that caught my attention. The tone was incredible. I had no idea it was my bass until I looked over to see Jeff with a big grin on his face. He had fallen in love. I know my bass but in Jeff's hands and through that amp it reached a new dimension of sound. In fairness, the amp was only part of it. I think Jeff's playing was the real driver of the sound.

I barely had the amp turned up as I didn't want to get us thrown out, but it will easily keep up with most drummers!

Jeff's amp weighs just about 5 pounds but produces 600W of power. I did not ask but I am sure it is a pricey bit of gear.

Yeah, with that amp you can strap your belt through the handle and carry it on your side.

I can do that with mine also, but I can't move or get up.
