Did George or Ringo ever have their wives involved in their bands? Maybe Paul had Linda in because John brought Yoko in his post Beatles bands and performances, Plastic Ono Band, With Wings, perhaps it was a rivalry factor involved, to have Linda in the band. Perhaps the attitude was, " Well if he can do it, why can't I? Take some spot light off of John and put it on Paul? They did have an intense rivalry did they not?

hmmmmm.... just my 2 cents - perhaps Paul warmed up to the idea because Yoko had been by John's side (literally) during the last part of the Beatles, but I dont think it was a *****-for-tat on Paul's part to stick it to John and Yoko.

maybe both thought that their wifes were talented musicians??????

John thought Yoko was, that much I have him on vinyl saying. Oh well, nobody is infallable.

I just read this whole thread and have a couple of opinions. On the surface (at least) it appears to me that Mccartney is a control freak which is probably the reason he never got players who were of his caliber to play, can you imagine the band he could have if he were a team player? He could get just about anyone in the world on any instrument to play. Half of his Wings stuff sounds like it was recorded by a bunch of stoned amateurs.
I have heard that Linda McCartney backing vocal track on the radio more than once. I feel bad that he exposed his own wife to the ridicule she went through. I don't think you should put someone on a stage in front of 50,000 people or in a studio that is not talented musically especially if she is your wife.
Yoko was no musician either and I'd rather listen to tires screech at a stop sign than most of her stuff, but at least she was artistic in her own way and she did get better as the years went on. Lennon was high most of the time during the early 70's when she was screeching all over the place, heroin will do funny things to your judgement and I'm sure he thought she was some kind of avantgarde singer. But at least Lennon put out a lot of quality stuff during the 70's that stands up today and some even surpasses the stuff he did with The Beatles IMHO. Yoko completely runied Live Peace at Toronto, but she didn't get a chance to do it again, she was on his records but in a more quiet inobtrusive way and actually contributed some decent backings later on like on Number 9 Dream.
Then again maybe it was Linda's hairstyles.

yeah i think paul was a control freak, but what i dont understand is why he insisted on releasing so much stuff in the 70's? alot of it being dodgy? was he that stoned in the 70's that quality control went out the window? i also wonder as more time passes if these albums will become classics

In fairness to MaCartney, he is a much bigger star than Bono and in this instance I would probably have done the same thing. I think maybe Bono has a bit of an inflated opinion of himself. If I were McCartney I would have told him he could be my roadie for the first tune, then go sit down, shut up and listen, haha!

I took the time machine back to 1969 and had a little chat with John, George and Ringo. Yup, they confirmed that Paul was a bigtime control freak. It was really starting to **** them off.

On an entirely different topic, I saw a Beatles documentary on the History Channel, with the Ed Sullivan footage. John and George singing, earnestly leaning over their mikes, MACCA bouncing on the balls of his feet, waving the neck of the Hofner all over the place, tossing his head.

Youthful exuberance? Full of himself? Poseur?

I found it as irritating now as I did then. Some things don't change, I guess.

I agree it seems they both have inflated opinions of themselves just that Mac's is a little more justified and also Mac's is more in the realm of reality. I mean he's a living legend, he'll be known for centuries. Bono? what's his claim to fame? You hear one U2 song, you've heard them all, they all drone on and on, haha! They had to grab onto politics to keep in the public eye and I don't believe half of it, half musician and half politician. I doubt the sincerity of a lot of these rich rock stars, if they were really sincere they'd do that stuff anonymously. McCartney's a big vegeterian isn't he? You don't see him crusading for Peta if that is part of the reason he doesn't eat meat, but I bet he donates money to a lot of charities, he might not even be the tightwad we all think he is.
Yeah McCartney was a showoff, but the girls loved it. Hey, you know he has to have something, we talk about him all the time right? If he wasn't so famous we wouldn't spend time discussing every little minute detail of this note, that album, that Hofner, Ric etc.
