"All things in moderation" has seen me go from 77kg when I finished school to 80kg 35 years later! Lots of vegetables works for me.....
Well......... perhaps I nudge the 'beverage' department a bit.........

Everybody's different, what works for me works for me. My cholesterol is in the amazing category and my blood pressure's normal. However, a "bland" diet takes some getting used to. My father and younger brother have mild diabetes.
In my 20's (150 pounds, 6'1")I decided to stop (added) sugars, like soda, mayonnaise, (whatever, read the labels), cause my teen acne wouldn't go away. Also chemicals (nitrites, nitrates, whatever). So no more fast food. I'm not so picky now except added sugars. Naturally occurring sugars should be enough. No added salt (again, it occurs naturally).
Having eastern girlfriends helped, cause many asian foods fell in line with what foods didn't bug me. I cut way back on red meat, and drink tons of water (water the key, methinks).
Nearly every day it's oatmeal for breakfast (a very large bowl soaked overnight in non-fat milk). Fruit, veggies and non-fat yogurt all day, though the oatmeal keeps me filled nearly all day. Tons of water and fruit juice, like Naked Juice Green Machine, not the hybrids at the markets with added sugars (i.e., Sunny Delight)
My wife's a great cook, but I pass or just have a nibble when I get home from work, drink fruit juice at night and rarely anything substantial after 6pm. I'm 6'1" and 172 lbs. That waivers a bit, I'd like to be a steady 170. I have a gym in the garage (should, but don't use). I have a sit up bench at work. If I do 80 a day for a week, I'll get a slight 6pack showing (once in a while I'll do it). If I do start exercising, like running, results are quick to show.
I'll go for the occasional cookie, eat a McDonalds if I'm working all night, and scarf at family holidays, but it comes off almost effortlessly. Hard to get used to at first, but it works for me. I rarely drink alcohol (mostly because I get a hangover while still drinking (!), which ruins it for me). I will have a vodka tonight, gonna see my friend's blues band at Cozy's. Water, water, water. Fills you up and cleans you out!
I have nothing against eating red meat or drinking till you fall down, except it doesn't make me feel good. Same with eating til I'm full. I eat til I'm satisfied. I'll usually have salads when dining out, so I go to good places that have above average salads.
Sorry for the long response. I hope you were serious when you asked, otherwise I've made a fool of myself again!

Wait a minute!!!!... I didn't know that I was supposed to eat a HEALTHY diet! Shoots.
Methinks I agree with you about the water. I dont drink as much of it as I should. I dont suppose beer fits in that catagory, eh?

Thanks Jerry,
I appreciate the detail that you went into. I am not overweight to any great degree but I would like to drop a few pounds. The information you provided is very helpful. I too believe that lots and lots of water is the key.

My life's an open book!
BTW, had two Vodkas last night, cause after the Blues club we went down the road a piece and watched Bobby Cowsill's band. They were excellent, especially on Badfinger's "No Matter What". Lotsa Beatle covers, too (in keeping with the thread). Bobby played a '60's Tennesean, his guitarist had a 350/12 and a gibson 330 (?). My blues band friend's bassist had a 62 jazz bass.
No other Cowsills in sight, nor was the bassist from the Bangles, who my drummer says is married to someone in Bobby's band, and he's seen there.
That's the Sunday morning show biz report, good night.

Two Vodkas?! Alert the authorities!
"Perhaps, as a species, we might find some happy medium where people are allowed to eat whatever they want without other people losing sleep over it..."
Looks good in a posting, Kent...but what about cannibalism? Talk about your eating habits causing other people to lose sleep...

Is that Bobby Cowsill as in the OLD Cowsills?
I thought they'd retired after those milk commercials.
>>>but what about cannibalism?
OOOOO, ya got me there.... but you know what I mean.... ie: if you've been a couch potato subsisting on Big Macs and greasy french fries for the last 25 years, then DON'T try to sue McDonalds when you suddenly realize that you're a big fat slug.
