Kent...let's sort out some semantics...

During WWII, there were groups like the French Underground, the Yugoslavian and Italian 'Partisans' and the Free Norwegian Paratroops...these were all thought of by the German High Command as 'terrorists' because of their use of 'IED's', etc. to achieve their ends. A source no less distinguished than Ronald Reagan referred to the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan as 'brave Freedom Fighters'...exactly the same cats that the current administration calls terrorists now. We love 'em when they fight to keep Communism off their backs, but when they decide they don't want any part of Christian Materialism, we gotta go 'smoke 'em out'...I'm not taking sides here, just marvelling on all the rubberized language...

For the record, one may employ the phrase 'State Sponsored Terrorism' to describe a certain kind of international behavior...I would argue, however, that the phrase 'State Sponsored Totalitarianism' is redundant, since only a State can be categorized as Totalitarian. Your suspicion that we might disagree on which group to fear among those jockeying for control in our society may seem to be well founded...however, you might be surprised to know that Tipper Gore's PMRC campaign outraged me almost as much as Rove's intended violations of our individual rights...

Generally speaking, I get really nervous whenever confronted by a white man in a business suit...even when that white man is named Alberto Gonzales, John Yee, Clarence Thomas or Condoleeza Rice....

so Thomas and Rice aren't really Black, and Alberto Gonzales really isn't Hispanic because they dont think the way you think they should? .... they are really all "white men"? This really is more of an observation than a question on my part because many on the left have explicitly said just that. Whether you, Dane, go along with that line of thinking is a bit besides my main point. That line of logic leads directly to Harry Belafonte's statement where he called Condi and Colon Powell Bush's "house niggers" .... a more despicable comment I haven't heard in a long long while.

and so, I refer you to these two articles. They are really all about the same thing and its all very pathetic.

Hurray for Devo, those crazy Ohio 'Leftists'...and hurray for Harry Belafonte as well. It's almost never pleasant to tell the truth as Harry did, but African Americans who forget their history and opt for 'stepping and fetching' are at the very least to be pitied. I feel very much for Powell in this regard, and at least he has shown the humanity to oppose the rush to war and to resign rather than keep contributing to this administration's illegal and immoral doings...'Condi', on the other hand...would you prefer the term 'house concubine'? There are only a handful of racial minority members in this country who support torture and oppose affirmative action and individual reproductive rights, and George Bush has every one of them on 'speed dial'...

If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, it's a duck...and if it's not a duck, why the hell is it quacking?

And now back to our regularly scheduled program, "Fiddling By The Fire"...

Dane.... all that is "group think" at its best. No wonder lefties are so quick to give totalitarian regimes, specifically communist ones (Maoist China, Soviet Union, Castro's Cuba and most recently Chavez's Venesuela) a pass. As long as the good lefty can be seen as anti-USA and anti-capitalist it doesn't matter what evil is given the wink and nod. Sad, very sad.

You know, friend, that there is a word for those who seek to catagorize, assume and assign behaviors and thoughts to people based on their racial heritage. That Belafonte has dark skin doesn't mean he cant be a racist ... he is a flaming racist (and anti-semite if truth be told) of the first order .... right there up along side David Duke, Louis Farrakhan, and (to delve into the past), Bull Conner, Planned Parenthood founder and eugenics promoter Margaret Sanger and the early 20th century segregatist and Stalin idolizer WEB DuBois.

Hey, man, I don't give any of those places a 'pass'...creepy oppression is all the same, no matter what color banner it's draped in...if that keeps me from ever being a 'good lefty', well, I'll just have to learn to live with it.

Bellafonte's use of the 'N' word is his perogative, and it's clear to me that he was using it in the same sense as slaves who worked in the fields employed it to describe those who worked in the 'house'...it was always the most docile and cooperative among the slave populations who were 'permitted' to wait directly on the 'master'.

Do me a favor...try your Harry Belafonte/David Duke comparison out on the next dozen African Americans you converse with and get back to me.

I don't know where the Bellafonte as anti-semite is coming from, either. If oppressing Semitic people earns one this epithet, then Ariel Sharon is the biggest Anti-Semite operating today...

Do ME a favor ... try your "Condi is the house nigger" line on someone else ... I dont buy it, and neither do most people who are not hung up on skin color as the all-defining aspect of who a person is.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, Hail, Hail Rock and Roll!! I watched that movie the other day, with Chuck, Keef and Clapton ect. Chapman owes his noteriety to the fact that Lennon saw Elvis and the other pioneers of Rock and said " That looks like a good job!" For that matter so does Yoko
