Well, I hesitate to write what I am about to write. Keep in mind I have never seen one firsthand or heard one played live. So, maybe I shouldn't say this until I have but I honestly have to say that I generally don't find the 381v69 aesthetically appealing. They always seemed to be a "little much" to my personal tastes. The pictures I've seen of MG's particularly left me cold. Again, I just thought they were too over-the-top, a little too showy.

This guitar though is absolutely, certifiably stunning and has me reconsidering my opinions on this model. Congratulations indeed John. I would love to see one of these guitars in person as these pictures suggest that this guitar is something to be seen first-hand. I know Ricks generally don't photograph well - in the sense that it's hard to catch the depth of their finishes with a camera. Maybe the 381v69 is especially difficult given its extra contours?

In any event, I'd like to invite some more photos of 381v69s? Anybody willing to put up more pix of theirs (any finish)?

They look uncomfortable to play, with both the checkered binding and carved top. A regular 360 must be very comfy in comparison. They never blew me away visually, but this BBR one has caught my attention ! Easily the best BBR I have seen, I think the figured maple is part of the reason.

Steve - I don't find mine uncomfortable in the slightest. Ok, it's a little bit wider and heavier than a 330 but it's not exactly a big box dance band thingy.

And checkered binding is every bit as comfortable as plain!

I finally got my BBR 330/12 today! I'll try to put pics up later this week. Its looks VERY nice too, but not on the level of the 381/12 BBR. The wood isn't as figured and it doesn't have the binding, raised contours on the body, shark inlays, etc, but it still looks, plays, and sounds great!

I think that the appeal of the 381 for me is that it's like a cross between a 360OS and an archtop, and any non-Rick I play is usually a Tal Farlow or a Super 400.
Or a 6120....
