I mostly play through an SWR 1x15 or an Ernie Ball 2x12 cab. They are pretty portable and the SVT sounds great through them. I can get loud and have presence too. With one of these cabs and one SVT I can keep up with a loud *** drummer and loud tube guitar amp. If you have to lug your stuff around for practice lugging a fridge around just plain sucks. Hell picking up the SVT sucks. I have never plugged both of my big cabs into one SVT but I would rather use 2 SVTs to run stereo.

The cabinet I have was custom made by a local cabinet maker Bob. It is the same dimensions as an Ampeg cabinet, but has a different handle setup on the back with the Marshall style indented plastic handles, and has some other Marhsall style indented ones with a bar in the middle of the handle like Marhsalls on the sides also, and has wheels on the bottom rear making it very portable. It uses Eminence speakers with the four 10's being the same as the modern Ampeg 8x10 speakers, and the 15 being a 300 watt Eminence 15. The section for the 15 has two small ports on either side of the speaker, while the 10 sections are sealed per pair, just like the Ampeg setup. The 10 section and the 15 section are each 8 ohms, and I can run them as seperate cabinets if I want to, or I can run a jumper cable between the two halves and run them as a 4 ohm cabinet. Its a pretty versatile and good-sounding setup.

I bet it's loud too with those ports. I sometimes like a ported cab also. Ampeg did make a cab just like you described though but I don't know if the bottom 15" was ported or sealed.

One of the Ampeg cabinets I have is a V4B cab...
It looks just like the SVT cab except it is 2" deep... It is a 2x15" reflex cab...also know as a folded horn... There are two Altec speakers in there.... All I can say is when this cabinet is plugged into the SVT with a 8x10 it becomes lethal... It sets off car alarms half-way down the block
It also use to make the singer in the band have to go take a dump after the second song... This use to **** him off whenever we were playing out

I meant to say 2' Feet deep .... Not 2" inches..
Although a 2" deep cab would be a pleasure to transport

Bob, the ports are maybe an inch and a half and are just holes in the wood so it isn't like they would really throw the sound out a lot. I think he did those mainly because the speaker I used would benefit from them, but I'm not sure. It sounds very good, with a perfect blend of the 10 inch tightness, and the more bottom end response of the 15.

Chris, if you don't stop picking on singers I'm going to hurt myself laughing.
If you played in the Detroit area, I'd go to hear your group every time you hit the stage. Those two first songs must be great.

I remember the V4-B's, they are the best sounding folded horn cabs I've heard, very big sound, just right for projecting the sound to a lead singers bowel area. I think they even reissued them for a while, they were huge though, haven't seen one for years.
