Graham,

Is that FG 4005 the one from Lorenz?
Looks like he did a bang up job in restoring it.
How is the neck? Does it need to be reset?
I ask since I was offered to buy it but passed on it. It was originally in Mexico not too long ago.
Here's what it looked like when he offered it to me:

But I'm in a happy place though. I booked airline tickets yesterday for my next trip to the US in late August. I'm in LA for a week starting Aug 22, then off to Memphis and Nashville TN, Columbia SC and then to Lancaster PA. I fly out of JFK on September 11 back to Melbourne.

I'm hoping to catch up with a number of Forumites during my trip.

Wooohooo!

Thats' great news, Darren. California won't know what hit it if we're both there at the same time!

"Mayor of Hiroshima" comes to mind............ Image

Hi Edgar,

Yes I got it from Lorenzo. It's a little beat up on the back, but the top looks fine. It plays really nicely. I didn't even consider a neck reset - but I'll double check.

So Brian...how was your off day on Thursday? Relaxing I hope

It started raining before I left for my part time job Wednesday night so I didn't get to ride my bike which was kind of a let down. I enjoy the relaxing ride home.....oh well. I also had to deal with a wacky homeless guy that caused a disturbance at the side job. It's starting to get warm out so let the fun times begin!

Thursday was great! Slept until 11AM, played with my dogs for a little while, did some yard work, practiced alone on a few new songs we're working on for our upcoming House of Blues gig then went to band practice. So I kept busy but with what I wanted to do. I have plenty of side jobs and gigs coming up so I'm treasuring my down time more than usual!

Thanks for asking, and how was your day? Image

I'm just glad I got my ProTools rig running... I was 10 seconds from chucking the interface through a window!

But now... I feel better... except for the awful weather, receding hairline, days being 6 hours too short, price of gas.... Image

"price of gas"

We are paying the equivalent of $7.75 a gallon here!

Gas in Venezuela is US$2.75.

A tankful.

That works out to roughly 12 cents a gallon!

I am not moving, though...

Hmmm... so it means you only need $2.75 (per month? per week? per day?) in Venezuela to feel comfortable with GAS?

Edgar...

It's been a long road to contentment. I'm now using ProTools M-Powered with an M-Audio Firewire 410, unfortunately on Windows but that's my little compromise. Once you install new drivers for everything, set your default recording device, send back the defective iLock for a new one, expand your already R-rated vocabulary DEEP into X, you're good. Now I just have to learn ProTools and I'm golden! Image

So far so good though. I've done a couple of test tracks and the sound quality is LIGHT YEARS ahead of my old method... but I forgot to mention the RAM upgrade and dedicated recording drive too... I need a beer! Image

Best stay away from the dual core chips at the moment. Not very software and driver friendly until the companies come up with PATCHES.

I'm sticking with MAC for high res multi capture and transfer to my WIN laptop for mixdown and editing. Wavelab is by far my favorite editing tool.

I haven't like the M-Audio products, I've rather stuck with MOTU with more success on the WIN side. Also, Echo products have been less stubborn and more stable. At least tech has improved over the past 5 years with regards to digital audio recording on the WIN platform.

So far I've had a grateful machine... 512Mb bumped up to 2 1Gb cards has made my computer run much better. I haven't gotten into any mix/edits yet in ProTools but I'm confident I'll have the power I need.

As far as M-Audio goes, again so far, so good. I went with that because I wanted to run PT and Mbox ran via USB, plus the 410 gave me much better I/O.
