I forgot all about this one, and it truly is the greatest of all time: the Clash version of "I Fought the Law"--perhaps the greatest rock'n'roll side ever, cover or otherwise. Although, their "Police and Thieves" (Junior Mervin) ain't bad, either.

I also like Yes' cover of "America". Can you find the part where Chris Squire actually quotes West Side Story?

Shatner's cover of LSD is possibly the funniest thing I've ever heard, next might be the Pat Boone Heavy Metal album.

Bang on, Dan! Two great covers by the Clash. Like most very good covers, it led me to listen to the originals, and opened up a whole new world of music to me.

For example, Brian Setzer has said that he got into rockabilly because he was a Beatles fan and enjoyed the Carl Perkins covers that they recorded.

Simonon said that he didn't find the Ric provided the sound that he wanted. Since he wasn't (initially) a good bass player - geesh, he couldn't play at all! - the "sound" would have been the only thing he could have controlled.

Though I adore Ric guitars, I also prefer a Fender Precision Bass sound.

Though if anyone out there wants to convert me, I'd be more than willing to take their Rick bass off their hands for cheap.

Sixpence None the Richer has a great cover of "Don't Dream It's Over"--with great Rickenbacker guitar tones! I also love their version of "There She Goes."

Speaking of VU, I should mention REM's "Femme Fatale" (the Velvets' original is one of my all-time faves, and I have the original flexi-disc REM version from THE BOB fanzine), and "Pale Blue Eyes", also very good.

Oh yeah! Rush's whole "Feedback" CD is amazing, as most of their work is! I love their covers of "Summertime Blues" and "Heart Full of Soul" as well.
