there's lots of people who don't think I'm from the south because I "don't have an accent."

I'm originally from the south too. Southern hemisphere. South Australia to be precise.
I don't have an accent though!

I was a military kid so I have a hodgepodge of everything...supposedly there's some Pocahontas connection in my family but I don't know much about it. I do know that my grandpa's cousin is Leonard Nimoy aka "Spock"!

I never thought I had an accent until I was in a grocery store in Toronto and after speaking, the cashier asked if I was from Michigan. I said yes and asked how she knew. She said my accent, which I though was doubly funny (being from the Midwest) because I thought she had an accent too.

Well if you have ever dined on grits, then your Southern, that even goes for polenta as well.
