I beleive that the xlr is from just the bridge pickup and is a low impedence coil or something..its defineatlee a different amount of wires from it (the bridge pickup)I know theres less wires from the mid placed one.Its been awhile since mines been apart..

The 4002 does not have HBs. They are single coils but they are wound and shielded differently. The treble pickup has two non-connected coils. A long one for the standard inputs and a short one for the low-z. Only the treble pickup is connected to the low-z.

The 4002 pickups look like this.....
There is an HB on the upper body wing for comparison.

Ginger: Here is a shot of the modded one from Austria. This angle should be familiar to you so the extent of the mod will be more than a little apparent.

Wow - that board is thick! Did they extend the fingerboard as well? If so, it's not the most elegant mod I've ever seen.

Yes, that is quite the mess Steve. They had to raise the tailpiece to make that fingerboard height work. It looks like they extended the fingerboard to 24 positions at the same time. Not very elegant at all...

This is how they raised the bridge...and treble pickup.

Thanks for the info Dane!

Ted, great pictures, thanks!

SO, these pickups were only used on the 4002 then? I thought they were HB's. SO much for that theory!

AFAIK, the pickups were used exclusively on the 4002.

Dave's is gorgeous though. Mine is Marianne to Dave's Ginger. Both are nice but his is drop dead gorgeous.

"Speaking of clandestine photos taken at RIC, my wife who WAS sneaking around taking pictures in out of the way spots, photographed something that leads me to think that RIC is considering producing a 28 1/2" scale baritone guitar modeled on a 381."

I saw that too, and I have a pic of it. I will not post it however, unless I get permission from higher up.
