It was a real red-letter day which started the day before (Thursday), when I had a biz trip down to LA for the university, and stopped in after my am appointments to see old friends at Mazda R & D and admire the new CX-7 mini luxury SUV. (The CX-7 was designed by my old friend, Suzuki. Someday I'll tell you about the fender-bender he had driving a Mazda in SoCal, with a woman named Kawasaki who was driving a Honda, being the other person involved. The police report, which he has a copy of, is a doozy. I guess I just did tell you about it...But I digress,as usual.)
I'm not an SUV fan in general, mostly because of space and gas mileage considerations, but this one takes the whole thing into a new arena. It has the most exquisite interior I've seen in a car costing less than $80K, no kidding. And something like 25+ mpg.
Then off to RIC for a chat with John Hall and a look at Kenny Howes' "new" 4005. It'll be a bit of work, but someday soon this much-abused cclassic will sing once more. I was impressed at the sound it had acoustically, just as a strung-up raw shell.
Dinner at Benihana's with John and Cindalee Hall, and on to a late flight and SF at nearly midnight. The staff at Benihana's
Yesterday, it was work as usual, but my folks are in from Chicago, so there was a brief surprise cake/candle/card thing at my office, and then on to dinner at a very nice place in SF called "Delancey". Great food, good service, and spectacular views of the Bay bridge and Treasure Island. Attendees: My Mom and Dad, daughter Juliana, son Paul, Jr., and wife Dalia.
Your good wishes on the occasion of my 39th are much appreciated!
...and today I'm back at it, working on a couple of acoustics (sand/varnish), a 370/12 (buffing), a Combo 400 (wiring), and a 330 (seal and paint).

Paul, Happy Birthday! Now..what was that about the staff at Benihanas? No matter how many times I read the post, I just couldn't get the gist. 
I stopped at my local Mazda dealership a month ago and thought the CX-7 was gorgeous, especially the interior. What was that they say about great minds? Har! Take care my friend!

Man, hanging out with the Halls, definitely a Happy Birthday! I read about all the stuff you do Paul and there is no way you're getting any sleep.
A couple of months ago I had to decide between Dale and Paul on a refinishing project that I was contemplating, and it was tough because they both kick *** at what they do to old ricks(and new). Bill Yantz's AZ refinish pics tipped me over to Paul's side and I'm scheduled for early next year. I feel very grateful to have such a master craftsman transforming one of my 33 year old basses into something that going to be so amazing that it's beyond comprehension.

Ah, so. The staff at Benihana's...
I was interrupted in my office, and hit the post button too early...
The staff all stood around and sang "Happy Birthday" in a scene reminiscent of the last scene in "A Christmas Story". Brought smiles to our faces. 'Nuff said.
