I know I'm late to this fracas, but that bass is beautiful!
I thought I only liked the V/C series in MG, but that MID is incredible!

In addition to confirmed MG,FG,JG,SG,Turq,Mid examples, there was also red and white available during the V63 production years. Anyone...anyone?

I don't know exactly how it works in the finish room but would guess they setup to do runs of colors. The stated reason for the solid colors (besides looking good) was to hide aesthetically flawed wood grain. Maybe when a V63 (or any other model for that matter) turned up with less than perfect wood grain, it would get sprayed with whatever solid color was in the finish room at the time. A V63 would look great in red! I have never seen one but I suppose it could have been done.

My recollection of the finish room was they could work on different colours at any time, when I was there the finisher was working on a Fireglo 6-string, but there were other colours in the racks and also awaiting second / additional coats.

Perhaps John, Ben or Kenny could comment on this.

We could also consult our fellow forumite that works in the RIC finishing department!

Here's another one for you...How about a V63 in Ruby? I know the Rick Page website Finish Timeline says that Ruby ended in 1984, but I have an '87 and an '89.

The only v-series instrument I have seen in Red is a 325v59 that Mike Parks sold quite a while ago:

That is one rare 325v59! I'd guess that a red 4001v63 would be as rare.

I got a little busy with work today so I wasn't able to hook up with the seller to finalize the deal which is OK since I'm still a little unsure if it's worth the $2500 risk to me. I am sort of leaning towards just letting the auction take it's course like it should.

Maybe my evil side will get to me tomorrow though.

Russell, Red or Ruby? Can't tell from the photo. You know the difference, right? Ruby is metallic, Red is solid red paint. The reason I question is that most Ruby's have white binding, most Red's have black binding. Not always, but exceptions are rare. Beautiful guitar.

WOW! Looks red from here - I've seen many Rubys that looked slightly more Burgundy - this is like fire engine red.

Paul, I'm sure the same color Red they used on the models with Black binding, but with the White binding it looks just great.
