Paul, that is Amazing! John Simmon's leftie looks just like the dark Burgundy finish of my long-lost KC012 March 71 4001, and also the same shade of dark Burgundy as the May 1973 Burgundy that I bought from Jon Casselman in November 2006 (only to be lost by UPS in-transit!). It lacks only the chromed-pkastic rear cover in looking identical.

Elys: The finish on the now-unfortunately-lost '73 that Jon sold to you was the inspiration and basis for the finish color I chose for my '72 4001 LH, made in November of that year. It was/is very painful to think that the BG '73 had to go missing. I also have another '72, a Mapleglo version from October. Here are all my Rick basses at the moment...

If you're in DC, we are pretty close to each other, I live out in the Shenandoah Valley--we should get together. You'll have to bring your new purchase to the MARF event in April.

Yep, the UPS incident really broke my heart. That bass (except for not having the walnut headstock wings, and having the skunk stripe and the wavy Grovers) was very close to my dearly-departed KC012. Broke Jon's heart too, he is a really great guy, and I count him a friend indeed.

Paul, you should be getting a package tomorrow.

And the Mink

Gotta tell a tale about the Mink: During the Friday late-afternoon performance in the hotel at the 75th Anniversary confluence, Billy Hensche (of Dino, Desi, and Billy fame) performed, told the story of his 360/12 CW -- he was the brother-in-law of Carl Wilson -- did a few tunes, then asked to borrow a bass for the next song. Well, nobody was quicker than I, so I grabbed the Mink from Paul W.'s display, snapped a strap onto it, and handed it to Billy. I never realized that the bass was not in tune (not even close), but Billy dove right into the song, tuning on the fly. He actually got to play it before I did that day. Here's the pic:




That's Kenny Howes in the background. He put on a great show, too, a little later. Man, what a great time!

Wow, the shot of the back of Paul's Mink is almost enough to make me forgo my love of Fireglo, come the time I have to have a Ric 4000 refinished I think I'd opt for this lovely shade.
