My understanding is that the core wire diameter is the main factor in string tension.
Glad you made it to Lima before the east coast blackout, Bob.
Old 4001 on Ebay

yeah, me too! I certainly am glad we didn´t have to camp out in Miami airport (the armpit of the US IMHO, at least the airport)
I think Mass was pretty much spared though.
Is that true nickles are higher tension for a given core? I didn´t know that. And yes that is what I have read too, that the core is responsible for the majority of the tension,
The TI´s are supposed to be made the old way with a small diameter core and they play and sound like old flats to me, they sound great on a Ric very even sounding up and down the neck, I wonder why JH doesn´t try these as a optional accessory for those of us who use flatwounds? Or maybe even Pyramids?

Hey guys, sold at $1,913. Any thoughts about the price. Did any of us grab it!
Regrading strings-Ireally recommend DR Low Riders 45-105 nice low tension. Use them on all my basses - no neck problems at all. Though I do not own a 70's 4001 (yet) Never say Never!
How's Lima Bob. I just made it back from Germany just in time!
Cheers

Lima´s great Andy, nice to be out of the heat and humidity of New England this year, it´s winter here and it is about 70 degrees today, gotta love that.
I´ve started checking around for gigs already, I´ve met a few people I´m going to jam with soon.
On the down side One of my B15T heads had been left in my trunk for months as a spare and had developed an intermittant problem with power going to the pre-amp section, the plane seemed to finish it off, and they want me to call headquarters in Texas, because they said how can I prove to them it was working when I put it on?! I can use it though without fixing it in conjuncion with the other one as it has both pre and power amp outs. I usually use both like that anyway. (one preamp with both power amps and speakers)It is 200 WRMS. with two 15's that way, that is enough for clarity in most situations.
BTW this is American Airlines, I have had more problems with them lately, losing a bass for two weeks, losing the records of my bookings, late planes, now broken amps, etc. no wonder they have had to file bankrupcy, they have lost one good customer now, no actually two, me and my wife.
Since I think it is a simple fix and it was on its way out anyway I´m not going to push it, I'll fix it myself and if I can't techs are dirt cheap here.
I´ll just fly Continental or Lan Perú from now on.
I brought two Rics, my 79 4001MG and my 78 4001 MB. Why did I bring two 4001´S? I don´t know either, I wish I had brought a 4003 instead of one of the 4001´s. They sound good though.
