Doesn't look like you can see the walnut thru the paint.

I recently I played a brand new 2006 4003 with a "bulbous" crest, and I could have sworn it had a thinner neck than any of my 4003's made since 2001.

I didn't have a thick-neck 4003 nearby to compare it to, so I could have been mistaken.

I know the theory behind the headstock-neck thing is as Ted describes it above.

"Lars, the only issues you should have should be with your dealer."

I, know Paul. That's why I worry. They didn't know what I was talking about (the ann. model). The Scandinavian distributor didn't either...

Edgar,

Have you gotten much time to play your 4003DCM yet? How does it play?

The only Rick I have played is my '87 4003, so I'm looking forward to having something to compare against.

I remember JH saying that there were two CNC machines with different programs shaping the 4000 series necks. One was producing the "bulbous" headstock and thicker neck, while the second was producing the slim '60s style headstock with thin neck profile.
Anyone else hear that?
I'm sure, in either case, the DCMs are great basses!

An interesting comparison:

My 4003 DCM's neck measures 1.710" wide at the nut, and .900" thick at the first fret. Anyone else measure yet?

My '76 4001 measures 1.630" and .900".

Edgar,

You said you got yours from a Tampa store? From the RIC site, I saw the Sam Ash stores there and checked shipments and wondered if they'd show a 4003DCM, but none did. Was it one of those stores?

Just curious about what we'd see on shipped lists when these go out. JH said that the filling in of these lists on the web site is all automated, so I would think that these 75th model beauties would have to show up on them somehow.

Thanks

The SKU's for anniversary models are blocked from showing up, intentionally. This was explained previously.

Greg,

I spent a little playing time with her. Only held her once. Home life and work are keeping me busy.
She plays very smooth just like the other 4003's I've played. No complaints.

Yes, I ordered her from Sam Ash.

Hmm. Ash, Aldrett. Maybe they're being delivered to an alphabetical list?

Look at the bright side, Marc. Could be one helluva stage name, kinda like Sting, or Slash, (or Elvis?-NOT) Image
