Ebay Anniversary Bass price, very sickening

I remember almost buying a CS Limited Edition back in 1997 when I ordered a brand spanking new 4001v63... The CS was actually LESS expensive, but although I am a huge Squire fanatic, I just didn't really care for his mods and the yellowish finish... To me, his bass was mapleglo, like it was at the time The Yes Album came out, which is when I first heard about Yes. But I think if I'd ordered the CS, now I would feel some pressure to sell it, just because of the appreciation they had as soon as the Ltd Ed. sold out. I'm happy with my v63, and I'm glad I got it just the way I did.

Ken's auction text says only 75 were made. I had thought only 60 were made. In fact, doesn't the RIC press release from Sept 01 2006 say only 60?

60 sold to the US, the other 15 for the rest of the world.

The 'proof of the pudding will definitely be in the eating' on this one... will anyone stump up that kind of money for it? Hmmmm.

I would think if we all ignore it, he will eventually have to sell it at a more sensible price.

BUT... if someone buys, the buyer is obviously happy with the price. It doesn't later the REAL value of any other Rics. It's just a blip on the meter.

I prefer to just bide my time and look up bargain mint 4003's in nice colours, anyway, so I wasn't really bothered about the Ltd Edition. I would only have taken it out to gigs anyway!

Tony, that's a great story & congrats for spreading the word so successfully!

Of course, there will always be kids who are curious enough to start digging for the roots of their favorite music and will find that broad horizons do make life more interesting.

The kids came back to the house last night. They went out and purchased a YES Greatest Hits CD then they told me that they were able to scratch up $220.00, and asked if they could buy my cool yellow bass!

THAT kind of sucked. I told them that while they couldn't have my "cool yellow bass" that I would help them look for a RIC bass that they could play and that I'd help kick in for it.

SO, I gotta go sell some stuff on Ebay, anyone hears of a CHEAP RIC bass lying around, drop me a line!

My wife was like "Great. It's like giving those kids an addiction. Now they KNOW what they like and can't afford it, you BETTER do SOMETHING to help them". Good woman, good woman.

Gene, when I got my first CS it was cheaper than the V63s...£999 UK. A week or so before I ordered it I nearly bought a V63 at around £1300, so I was over the moon when I found out the CS was cheaper (I actually wanted the CS).

Unfortunately not long after I got it my lumbar/cervical disc problems started, and it was a very heavy bass, probably the heaviest Ric I've played. The balance wasn't good either, so I had to sell it; it went for £800!!!!!!

The next one I saw was around 3 and a half years ago in Andy's in London; I saw it in the window and walked in to ask how much. They said "£3000, but we may take £2500". I couldn't believe it. I wish I had that first one to resell now!

No more than $3500 tops, for me. The fact that some eBay denizens are willing to seriously overpay beyond that is sad. Anyone who thinks theirs has a sustainable sales value of $5000 or more will never sell one to me, at least this year.

And THIS is coming from someone who paid $7200 on eBay for a true collectible Jan 1970 21-fret 4001 in showroom condition last month, and also paid $7300 for a 1963 4000/4001 a few weeks later, and $5400 for a 1968 4001 two months ago. I am not afraid to pay good money for a good bass. But a 4003 DCM is just an $1800 4003 with two plastic pieces that can be swapped by anyone in two minutes with a screwdriver. Not even any special CB binding
