I'm prolly more guilty of that than anyone. School takes up a lot of my time, and if I futzed around with the 2 Ricks I do have (and the 7 Fenders) instead of building them I would be much better. In time I guess

I currently have 5 basses (one soon to be sold, another coming)and I feel guilty about even owning that many. And truth be told, I can't really afford them! I'm going to be paying off the last two bought for a long time, which I feel rather uncomfortable about, particularly as I can't afford to do anything else in the meantime! I guess that's one of the bad things about Forum's such as this; they feed your GAS in a large and unseemly way, and it's easy to stretch beyond your resources in a moment (or several) of weakness. Also, when you see guys out there who've got a dozen + gorgeous Rics, it's easy to think, " I can justify 3", when in reality maybe you can't. Personally I need 2; one and a spare. It could be argued that anything beyond that is an extravagance, although I feel they all have their individual uses.

I have to agree about the collecting/playing part though. In the old days when I had a couple of basses at most I was twice the player I am now. I think I've become guilty of wanting instruments for the sake of it....

now with all you guilty ric herders, does that mean ebay will soon be flooded with good buys ?

i am currently rickless right now and am looking for something ....hell i'd be happy with a greco if i could bid on one before the auction was cancelled.

i don't need the prestige of an actual ric, i just want a decent player.

Well, I've got a bunch of Ricks, Scott. TOO many, in fact! Take your pick. I'm looking to do a trade(plus cash) deal for a 60's 4001S. You know anybody lookin' to get rid of one?



Oh, and...you DON'T want a Greco! You can pick up a good 70's 4001 for under $2000.00. It will be much closer to what you're used to.

I have two Ricks, although I had three for a day. I was trying to narrow it back down to two, for obvious financial reasons- to pay for the new one. However, I would love at least one more, because playing music is just something that I do, and it's fun to have a choice of instruments to play.
My father is always astonished to find out that I only have two basses, which I find amusing. However, I think three would be a good number eventually, but it'd have to be something different.

i can't remember the last time i played a bolt on neck. maybe they're not so bad.

p.s. - i know, i'm not proud of what i did with the '67 but if i come across another one, perhaps at a yard sale or something i will definitely let you know... ok ?

Yeah, there are a lot of "enablers" out there who tempt us. "Go ahead." "What's one more?" "You know you want it." I used to fall prey to these guys, but no more.

Now I am one.

I've got nine Rick basses in the fleet, attended by three Höfners and a Rick 12-string 660, and have had four other Rick basses pass through on their way to more appreciative owners. It's kinda like my model airplane collection. I have about 100 models built, with more than 600 unbuilt kits waiting for my attention. I know I'll never get them all done with the time I have left (another 40 years or so; I'm 58), but I dare not sell them off because I don't know which ones I'll build! What wonderful sicknesses! (model is 3.5" long, 5" span)
