For the first time in my life, I'm a RIC only player. My LAST Alembic departed my home this morning and I'm REALLY missing her already. Image
But, she is going to a good home so I know it is for the best. My V63 is my go to bass. I can get most ANY sound out of that thing!

I'm TRYING to get a set of Alembic pickups ordered to put in one of my RIC's, but trying to ACTUALLY PLACE the order from Alembic is proving an almost IMPOSSIBLE task! Sweet people, but I can't get them to finalize the transaction! Hey Paul, I see what you mean about folks in California! I may just give up and wait for my 4004Cii to arrive and then see which way I want to go.

I've NEVER owned an American Fender, only a MIM Jazz. I loved the FEEL of the neck, but trying to get it where there weren't any dead spots was IMPOSSIBLE. I think the vintage 62 Jazz sound is amazing in its own right. If I THOUGHT I could get a RI and get THAT sound, I'd do it in a minute.

I REALLY, REALLY want to try a 1962 or 1975 RI MIA or MIJ Jazz. The P basses I've tried have HUGE necks! I hear SO many varying opinions about which one is REALLY better, the MIA OR MIJ, I just have NO idea which one to go for.

Japanese Fenders are very high quality instruments. Considering the value for the money, this is the way to go. However, I have noticed that their prices are going up too. I think my Jazz was about $700 directly from Japan. The good thing is that when you get them in Japan, you have them here in the US in 3 days.

Tony, the reason that I've just ordered two '62 P basses from Japan is because of their necks. They are A LOT slimmer profile than the MIA ones.

The idea is to try them both, select the keeper and then sell the other. I'm not hoping to make any money out of the deal just to get a P that suits my small hands. I went for the '62 RI with alder body and USA PUPs in 3 tone sunburst. Looks very Jamerson. Will report back when they get here in a few days time.

The neck on my friend's P bass is really nice and comfortable. But then strangely I tend to have more problems with J Bass necks for some reason.

Bob, that's me all over...Image. Seriously, I think it's the taper, I generally find it very difficult to get used to. Also there always feels to be more tension to me, and I'm a low tension kind of guy!

Anyway, weren't you supposed to be getting rid of some basses...? Image
