A simple thank you to Peter does not seem enough somehow. However, it is probably all that is really necessary to say at the end of the day.
Thank you!

A little while ago I did receive an odd e-mail out of the blue about my silverface Dual Showman Reverb (it was an opinion that Fender never made them, a view with which I disagree) and because it's most likely that my DSR was seen in the background of one of the pictures I posted here, I assumed that the contact was from a lurker. No harm, no foul.
One thing to help newcomers in deciding whether to join would be to have in the Main part of the site some sample pages, sans the posters' identifying info, as image files that could be read as "samples" of the Forum's content.
As to the issue of privacy vs. accessibility, I will leave it up to Peter to decide how to handle things. I have no problem with having to log in.

I think Peter, that when the discussion is over & the decision is made, that you will have 100% support from the forum members.
This forum is like a family....yes, we fall out every now & then, what family doesn't, but when it comes down to it, we're as one & this is the strength of this forum IMO. Outsiders can read a thread that goes a little 'testy', but unless you are a regular, then you don't see the aftermath, which almost always is an 'agree to disagree' & return to friendship. It would be interesting to know how many other forums have members that travel 1000's of miles to see each other? Outsiders can become family members at the click of a mouse.....

I dont have a problem with it at all Peter.
Nothing wrong with security.
If any outsiders feel "shut out", ignored or whatever,,,they can join the forum like we did.

I have no problem with logging in either.
I just want to say that I found this forum by doing a Google search for something about Rickenbacker. I am not sure if that would work now. Do you think that searches will still turn up links to discussion threads? Then the searcher would hit the login screen, but at least know that there is a meaningful discussion waiting for them once the do register?
Thanks Peter!

Any web site, this one included, can fix the search engine issue by simply creating a large meta-keyword section at the head of the home page. It is hidden from view, but search engines read it for search terms. At present, neither the home page of this site, nor the forum top page, have any meta-keywords in place yet.
Soon, when Peter places carefully-chosen words like "rickenbacker" and others into new hidden meta-keywords fields at the top of each page, he will ensure that search engines continue to index the presence of the Forum for search purposes in the future. Plus, existing already-indexed forum pages prior to today will remain on search engines for many years to come...

I know nothing of these things Elys, but I do find it odd that when I google for something, that often, an advert will appear near the top of the list that is many years out of date!

Since I now have to login to view posts, it would be nice not to have to enter my username and password again to submit posts.
Thanks for all your hard work on the forum Peter.

I never have to. Just use a browser that supports the saving of logins. Firefox does this, and so does Micro$oft Internet Exploiter. Next time you are asked to enter the info to post, and it asks if you want to remember this for future, click OK. From then on, everytime you go to post, the browser will fill in the info for you.
It is a good workaround, and while Discus Pro can be set to not require the login to post, the browser workaround at your end is so easy and "set it once and forget it" that it is really not worth the engineering time and effort to change that feature. Peter would lose an extra security layer were he to no longer require the PW to post.

Although I still feel quite the newbie on this site, I also feel very much at home with all you nutty folks. Your thoughtfulness in trying to protect our privacy is commendable. And, I hope to someday make it to one of the confluences and actually meet some of you. (maybe even jam a bit) Thank you, Peter, for all you've done thus far, you seem like a "swell guy".

Another way to turn this on in Microsoft Explorer is to go to the Tools menu, and select Internet Options.... Select the Content tab. and click on the AutoComplete button. Click on the User names and passwords on forms box. Then just click OK twice.

Erik: another trick that may be helpful:
Edit profile (top of page) -> Preferences -> Remember my username & password in a cookie (choose the option). Works fine for me.

Very helpful, Sheena!
I usually prefer to enter my passwords manually, but here that's a useful tool, since we're required to log to post.
Thanks!
