EMG Select pickup... that's... that's something I wouldn't do!

It is not a genuine Rickenbacker bass. See if you can spot the details that give the game away (apart from the bridge, the pickguard and the nameplate, that is). As for the 'wavy' button tuners, they are surely Grover copies - the 4001 copy I spotted a few days ago here in Lisbon had those.

The whole body shape is wrong, the horns are too pointy and the cresting wave is not correct, the "skunk stripe" goes all the way through a Ric, the TRC is shaped wrong, there are many things wrong on this bass.

Here's another one, sporting Grover tuner copies.

Yep, poor attempt at a truss rod cover too.

Just went to the music store that is selling a 4001 copy. I got permission from the owner to remove and inspect one of the Grover tuner copies on that bass. To my surprise, the cover was held by screws to the tuner assembly. A definite improvement, as this prevents the whole thing from coming apart as often is the case with genuine Grover tuners. As much as I hate to say this, the fake knocked spots off the original...

Ah, the wonderful tone of plywood bodied basses.

Wow...what a beauty! I wonder why Ric never went with the Fender style string retainers or the pointy tuners, or the plywood body, or the strap button location....I can't go on. It's horrible!

I want it too. For months I've been searching for something to break on my neighbour's head when he's too noisy...
Cheers,

The other interesting thing about the Kay Rickenfakers is that their necks are *short-scale* (my first bass - found lying next to a dumpster - was one of those Kay necks bolted onto the body of a cheapo 6-string guitar! To call that "instrument" a POS would be much too kind).

What's the deal with the strangely shaped bridge?
