I can convert any 4004 to a 5 string bass ... no matter where the pickups are ... 8)

Don't worry Jeff, RIC is working on it. I SO wish I could talk about what J.H. told Joey and I at NAMM.

Well, you were the first I ever saw do it. And Mark was more proof to me it could be done after learning from the master. Not so bad once the first one is done and one knows what to expect on the next one.

Thank you and Mark for the inspiration and knowledge, and Dane for the vision of another way to do it (or redo this one) in the future. This is addictive.

Ooooh, the bad things I would do to get one when that becomes a reality.

I hope that Ric actually does produce a 5 string bass again ... one that is finger friendly without having an uncomfortably wide neck and one that all 5 strings are covered by the pickups ... 8)

I'll bet! That has to be most daunting. Nice job.

It's comical, because one can sort of explain away and rationalize the pilot hole as repairable. "Yeah, if I change my mind now, no real harm done...I can get that fixed." But you put that 1/2 inch bit through the first layer of finish, followed by the excavation of maple and walnut....THEN the sinking feeling of "point of no return" comes to mind.

Quite entertaining, actually.

Today the nut got fine tweaked down to where I like it. Intonation set and tomorrow it goes out of the house for it first real ride.

Bruce, next time you come to L.A., you should bring your 4004. Maybe we could get together at my place or Charly's like last time. I've never played a 4004 4-2-5, only the 3000 and 4003 4-2-5's which are too tight on the spacing

We should do something in Feb or March. I know Gary and Joey stated would like to get in on it. And I would guess Jerry would be up for it again. We could do it at my place again if you think we'll be comfortable.

I think most of the furniture in that room would have to go...unless we set it up in your living room.

Would be nice to get together. Maybe then we could also start the planning the So Cal confluence this summer. :D

We could move the 2 chairs and couch out of the family room and we'd have a bit more room out there.

Unless I thin the herd, I will have plenty of amps! I am trying to downsize the Traynor but everyone in SoCal is clueless! It'll have to go on ebay to get a decent price.

Equip status
Ampeg B2RE and 410 HLF
Ampeg Portabass 250 with matching 2x12
1x 15 cab with Eminence Kappa
Vox DA30
Traynor YCV-80
Fender Rumble 60
Fender Deluxe 80
Rickenbacer TR-7
All this equals TOO MUCH STUFF

I suppose we should move this convo to the confl section, huh?
