This is fantastic news. Of course, my odds of finding it and playing it just once just went to zero (from zero!) :D

DeWitt: Please accept my apology for the rude and accusatory tone that you received by some with regard to Peter Buck's missing Rickenbacker.

We are all relieved that the instrument has been found and I am sure Peter is resting easier.

I appreciate your feedback and hope you receive apologies from any that pointed fingers in a hurtful and insensitive manner.

Please do come back. We would love to hear some behind the scenes stories of being on the road with REM.

I spoke with DeWitt on the phone last night - he and the R.E.M. crew were en route from Geneva to Zurich. Hopefully he won't mind me passing on this story, as it adds to the weight of this particular instrument. Fans of 1980s underground rock will understand the significance of this tale.

DeWitt ran into Mike Watt after the R.E.M. show in Hamburg the other night. Watt was in town with Iggy and the Stooges, and came by to see DeWitt as he (DeWitt) was preparing to zip back to Helsinki to pick up the recovered 360.

Watt reminded DeWitt that, in 1985, at the last show of The Minutemen's tour supporting R.E.M., Peter took his 360 off for the last number of the night and draped it over Mike Watt, who played it as a cast of characters (members of both bands) crashed their way through a cover of Television's "See No Evil." A week and a half later, The Minutemen's D. Boon was killed; ergo, according to Watt, the last song Watt ever played with Boon, Watt was playing the trucker 360.

Needless to say, Watt was beside himself to find that the missing guitar had been retrived, as the 360 also held a special place for him.

Crazy huh?

+1, and welcome, DeWitt!

Great back story, Kenny ... it adds even more history to that cherished instrument. I am also greatly joyful for its safe return.

Thank you for sharing with us DeWitt. It would be great to have you stop by here every so often and hear the news from the road and home. Travel safely.

Thank goodness the guitar was returned. I am very relieved as we all are.

What a relief! I was kind of pessimistic myself, but I'm happy to be wrong once in a while. :D

This is really great news, and it is good to know there are decent people out there who made REM aware of where the guitar was. :)

Watt's own bass was also stolen not too long ago.

I'll continue to post some R.E.M./Rickenbacker tidbits here...
Yesterday in München/Munich, Michael introduced the band as follows: ""I'm Michael, that's Mike, that's Peter & that's the Rickenbacker!"
Says something about the importance of that guitar, once again. :!:

I bet you five bucks Stipe said "Ricken-BOCK-er." Just a hunch.

DeWitt says it right though.

Just noticed in this MTV interview that Peter mentioned that it was indeed (as many assumed) "kidnapped" and ransomed back. Pretty disappointing if you ask me.
