FWIW I thought about going all scientific and discuss vibrational nodes etc. but I refrained from it.

I'm probably late to this discussion...

My 650 and 4004 have oversized routs, and maybe they look uneven. maybe there's some adjustments/tweaking to do. I don't know or care. Never noticed the gaps, they don't affect how the axes play, and have only a minimal impact on their appearance. But that's just me and my guitars. YMMV. :D

When I finally pull the neck PU on the Dakota (to see if the PU is shot or the ground wire is busted) I'll play around with the placement. For now I'm keeping it out and playing it as is to get used to it again after 4 years playing my basses...

Mike - beatiful Laredo, btw!

Awesome Bass, congrats. Ben Hall was right when he said BBR looked best on the 4004.

This post does bring up the interesting topic of man vs machine, I have always liked the hand produced nature of Ricks and since a human can't match the tolerances of a machine, it is inevitable that variations will occur. The routs on my Cheyenne aren't spot on, but since they aren't structual or immediatley obvious I don't fret.

I know from previous experience if it niggles now, it will always niggle!

It's rock-n-rol! You only need the four open notes.

Sorry...couldn't resist either.

Here here! I hope it worked out to his satisfaction.

Incidentally, I received two Rickenbacker 4004L Laredo basses around the time that Michael received his, and I have posted links to photos of them below.
