WOW! Beautiful grain....great looking mod! Did you just use the guitar toaster with a couple small bolts & nuts, or did it attach with the existing hardware? Excellent!!!

Re: Experiences with Pickguardian?
The mounting plate for the hi-gain pickup already has holes in the correct location to mount the toaster, all I did was get some stainless steel screws, nuts and washers to install the toaster after removing the hi-gain from the plate. Very easy to do. Note the vintage style Pickguardian back painted plexi pickguard.

Tone-wise, besides less output (not an appreciable difference), the toaster has more clarity to the notes - slightly more treble content - just enough to add definition to the notes. For me, it took the E string from open to G# and made them distinct from each other. Still the same tone flavor, just more clarity and a tad less of the aggressive growl quality.dog wrote:I didn't know that you had replaced the bridge HG with a toaster. I won't ask if you like it. That seems obvious. But I am wondering if you can describe the advantage of the toaster in that position compared to the HG. I do realize that it is sometimes hard to describe tone comparisons, without someone (me) being able to hear it. I'll thank you in advance
Re: Experiences with Pickguardian?
Does anyone have Pickguardian's phone number? I can not find it on the web page any more.

Sure. 614-263-9123 It does take longer to get through by phone, and I believe that Tony asks you to leave your phone number and wait for a call back. He's quick on the draw when it comes to answering emails.

I will upload pics of mine later. Suffice it to say it looks very similar to Jeff's except the PG is stock; the knobs are vintage, the shield is gone, Toaster in both slots; AFG.jps wrote:Here is a photo of my former 4003FL with a toaster in the bridge position.
The advantage of the tone is that it is deeper, smoother, and clearer, and that is much better suited to fretless--in my opinion--than the "sniper rifle" tone of a Hi-Gain and its exposed single poles.
I can't explain it better than that. I have a 6.3 K Toaster in the neck position and a 7.2 K Toaster in the bridge position now; formerely it was a 7.2 K Toaster in the neck and an 11.2 K Hi-Gain in the bridge. The Hi-Gain just sounded thin and a little too "spot on". With fretless you kind've want the tone to smooth out and that's exactly what the second Toaster did.
Sound clips will come some day, I swear.
