Aesthetically, the 4002's gap doesn't bother me at all...just more space to show off the birdseye!

I really think they're the best-looking Rick bass out there...except for the 4001 bridge. They should have come up with something that looked/functioned better for such a nice instrument.

Oddly shaped guard, weird naked space at the base of the neck, everything is different yet they still have the 4001 bridge? They look like someone ripped the guts out of a 4001 and threw new parts onto it from across the room.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, Wes. My opinion is you couldn't be further from the truth.

Mine works like a Swiss watch. No rattles, intonation screws turn free and easy, plus it has something that no Badass type bridge has: A simple, effective and easy to use mute. 5 quick twists of each thumb screw activates it, 5 quick twists back de-activates it.

I'm with Tony. I didn't care for the looks of the 4002 until I saw in-person and played Jeff's at RIO, and now seeing Dave's WAL! I'm freakin' in love!
What a beautiful bass!

Thanks, Kevin. Oh, I almost forgot: A couple days ago when I was playing her...my 4002 asked me to say "Hi," and "Happy Holidays" to you and your family.

I won't tell her that you prefer Dave's!

I wish Ted S would pop in and re-post the pics of his 4002. His pictures show the real beauty of the color, especially the back. 4002 basses are PRETTY!

As near as I can tell, the 4002 was first produced in 1977. The latest ones seem to have '82 SN's though they may have been made after that. I am guessing they were probably not made after '84. The model appears in RIC brochures throughout the 80's but I think that was because the company was still trying to sell off the initial inventory. As wonderful as it was, the model was a serious flop. The 4002 was simply ahead of it's time.

Hey Ted!

Happy holidays to you and Marianne! :D

If, as you say, the series was a flop, I'll take yours off your hands!
