I don't know, as a boat anchor, I'm not sure it would be all that effective...

That's one super nice Jetglo. Love that pickguard!!! It really adds to the overall visual appeal.

I would not be suprised if the C series replacement bass was not something like this. Perhaps with the checkerboard binding even???? I would be interested in a bass along these lines.

Discontinuing a model thats not moving very well and concentrating on the backlog makes sense. We all would like them to make everything available all the time, but thats not very likely is it ?

Concentrating on the backlog for now, keeping QC tight, and maybe a new design / designs for when this depression, ( yes, I said depression) might pick up, makes sense to me.

I've been wondering about that, too, 'acourse, although I'm not sure in these difficult times, and as the C64 seemingly hasn't been selling all too well already before anyway, I would recommend anything but offering a TT + HS ("full VP") option for the 4003, as this apparently to many players would be highly attractive.

Likewise, a slight modification I could still recommend was a series/parallel switch, either on a push/pull pot, or by replaying the 3-way w/ a 4-way rotary PU-select (neck only, both serial, both parallel, bridge only).

Of course, what I would like to play still more than a C64 was some real fancy stuff based on the 4000Ci-ii, 4002, and then still some, like a stabilized neck of 3 pcs of maple + 2 pcs of bubinga, ebony fretboard (maybe even w/ paua oval inlays), claro walnut body wings + matching headstock overlay (preferedly w/ a maximally protecting high gloss finish); some state-of-the-art hardware (preferedly gold): Hipshot Ultralite tuners, Hipshot A bridge (brass) w/ thru-body-stringing option; some decent extended range PUs (maybe even SCs + dummy coil), a 5-way rotary PU-select (N, S, P, B, standby), 2 vol, 2 tone, ¼" + XLR outputs.

It's very hard to resist a c64 joke when a C=128 is so near and handy.

I know we're talking C-Series replacement but I'm seriously getting used to my 4003S/5 now and would be very very tempted to have another 5er but fretless with no fret lines or dots.

I guess the best option for me would be to just get another 5er and replace the fretboard.

Otherwise, don't let yourself be mislead by such an incomplete feature list (which about equally well could be said to overlap with e.g. that of some of Tobias, Marleaux or Sandberg basses). The typical (and variations thereof) RIC sound IMSNHO is largely determined by the selection of woods and how the are composed. Experience obviously has shown that you can slam on a heavier bridge such as a BadAss II or Hipshot/brass, or also Bartolini PUs (or even think of that 70s mudbucker), and still it will sound like more of like a RIC than anything else.

OTOH, I'm not sure even if Alembic could be coaxed into building a maple NT, 33¼" scale, bubinga fretboard, 1¼" thick solid maple body wings w/ sort of a simplified RIC-inspired shape (again think e.g. Sandberg), alone their hardware will make a difference, not to speak of their PUs and electronics (no matter their 2-band EQ or low-pass filter w/ Q).

Well, at least if one's playing a show outdoors with one, a stand is completely unnecessary; the end will sink easily into the nearest spot of dirt shovel/spade style.
