Besides, if they did re-issue a limited number of 4002's, could you imagine the bloody stampede to the dealers?

Im sure their not finished with the horseshoe pickup, not after all of the legal hassle they've done to protect it. I'd really like to see the V68 evolve, or a re-introduction of the V63.

What do you say Ben? Is the Horseshoe gone forever?

I guess now that they are done taking orders for C series basses, maybe they'll be some leftover horseshoes to sell. Unless they have plans to make another series utilizing the horseshoe, not sure why they would still produce it.

Yeah... but the way I see it the 4002 was way ahead of its time. Even though it existed in the seventies and eighties I think it is 100% legitimate right now, in a way other vintage basses usually can't claim.

I don't know, I just see it as an ultimate "player's bass". I'd love to have one. Playing iiipopes' every time we hang out, I know how awesome they are.

That aside, and besides the 4002, I DO look to the future. I would like to see this: a carbon fiber 4003 (similar to Status basses) with no more Horseshoe routing, and an Audere preamp. That would kick arse.

I'll bet that for less than what the price of a new 4002 would be, a 4003 could be converted to (close to) 4002 specs. Wait time would be less, too.

The new SPC on eBay is RIC converting 4002 parts (body wings) to a 4003. The opposite can be done too.

The key of course is understanding how the 4002 pickup is constructed. Someone will have to sacrifice a pickup for that knowledge. The rest of the wiring can be duplicated. You know, people like Seymour Duncan took apart real '59 P.A.F's to be able to replicate them accurately.

Suppose someone knew how to build a 4002 type pickup, is it legal to actually do it?

As far as I know, the main difference is a third wire coiled around and going directly to the XLR from the bridge pickup. It bypasses the controls completely, and is only on that treble pickup. I'd be surprised if it was protected; I think just the design and/or look would be.

Keep away from your keyboard, Jeff. Just turn your head. There's nothing to see here. Move along.
