That sounds like the kind of weather we get here in KS. It ain't no fun. Be careful.

Well, that looks nice!

The forecasters were once again wrong, though not as far off as they have been lately, and fortunately, in the other direction this time. Instead of the predicted -30F, we only got to -26...

Oh yeah, we get -40 fairly often, the record is -56F.

At least we almost never get freezing rain and ice, that stuff is terrible! In the winter here, precipitation is WELL frozen when it comes down...

After three days of constant rain we got a break today with some mere fog and gloom.

Hi CJ,

my daughter is currently in Minneapolis, where it's a balmy -10C. She is on her way to Grand Marais where she has a job in a lodge for the winter. She is quite keen about it all and enjoys the snow, what little we get here on the hills in Victoria anyway. The way things are looking there, I wonder if she will have the same opinion once the winter has passed.

If you need to escape the big chill, you can come here: a pleasant 32C today and 39C forecast for tomorrow, with fire danger warnings issued.

Stay warm !!!!!!

Hi John,

yes, I was aware of that. I haven't seen much from Melibee of late, not that I have been here much myself lately either.
( I'm still working hard at trying to string two notes together on the new bass!!!!!)

Wendy will be working at Bearskin Lodge, which is about 27 miles north of Grand Marais. She is there until late March.

Just goes to show it really is a very small world.

And a cold one! Here anyway, -31F this morning... And then the furnace started acting up... :( Seems to be going now though...

Cool that you daughter is getting a taste of winter, looks like a nice place. Dog sled trips and sleigh rides, fun! Hopefully, she and Melibee can get together sometime...

It is a very small world indeed.... and I hope that we get a chance to meet Wendy when she comes to Grand Marais! Marc and I haven't entertained an Aussie since Aitch's visit three years ago, and would love to again extend our northern hospitality to a new friend from Down Under. We don't really have a measurable amount of snow yet, but it sure is plenty cold outside.... and probably even colder up the Gunflint TraIl where Bearskin Lodge is located--the town of Grand Marais itself is situated right on the shore of Lake Superior, and that large body of water moderates the temperature, so that in the winter it is usually at least 10 degrees warmer here than there. I think they may have more snow up the Trail than we do by the lake right now.

BTW, a little bird let me know about this thread.... Thanks for the heads-up! I really do need to check in more often; life has just been too busy lately!

You're all idiots for not living in Florida. It was 80 degrees F this weekend and sunny and breezy. I still love you all.

There's way to many people in Florida already! Hmm, maybe that's part of the reason there's practically nobody living around here...

80! 80 degrees? Oh man, that's WAY too hot for me!
