Have we become jaded?

Re: Have we become jaded?
Mark,
You need to read the entire thread in context and then look at it from a moderators point of view. Each and every one of them are experienced enough to know when a thread has all the earmarks of turning sour. This thread from its early beginnings, had the potential to stir the pot and attract the very few who have a history of driving a discussion until it turns into a mess.
This thread has indeed been straddling the line of respect vs disrespect for RIC.
In the meantime please carry on. I just wanted to respond to the not so subtle criticism levelled at one of our moderators.

2011 is the 80th Anniversary for RIC, yes? Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised.

On the other hand, maybe RIC will expand PW's license, to build some Capris and Fs!jingle_jangle wrote:HEY!!!Mateybob wrote: Yes, a re run of the F series, a factory produced acoustic, some new models or even just colours would be great, and would surely have this forum buzzing like a bee hive with Winnie the Poo outside, but at the moment I'm very happy and grateful for what I've got.

I'm still a RIC-newbie..
and would be perfectly happy with: a good old - 330/12...
and sad I missed the days where you could just go buy... a Burgundy Glo !
so I'm far from worrying about anything new.

Re: Have we become jaded?
as to the jaded aspect,i was watching a new show on paladia,an hour of Paul Weller's latest album, interspersed with band performances, interviews, etc. ( which was great,btw...) and spied his bass player playing a gorgeous montezuma brown sunburst cii....one of the models like mine that had the less usual pickup positions. very exciting to see a professional guy playing one....i myself am really not in the market for anything new,if something really fantastic came out i would have to think about selling/trading my current basses, and i am just too thrilled with both of them to want to do that.

I guess if we want something new, I'm sure Fender will churn out a new Stratocaster. Lord knows we need a new special edition Strat. It must be close to a milestone for Fender. I'm thinking they must be turning 65. Maybe they can come out with the Medicare edition Strat.

Mark, if you have a problem with my actions and posts as a moderator and/or member of this forum, I suggest that you contact Peter, the admin/owner of the RRF and give him a real good piece of your mind about me.Ric_MEL wrote:Gosh.. all I got was a RIC fan was noting not to expect NAMM to bring forward new product from RIC.. and this time of year/show is when every other manufacturer/vendor introduces new product. .. It's an exciting time to see/hear of new stuff..
It's a fact of life, RIC operates differently. OK.
That's disrespectful ? .. that warrants a moderator stepping in to kind of make a soft warning? .. Jeesh..

Re: Have we become jaded?
I haven't seen anything I would consider disrespectful, but that's just me. I have enjoyed the thread because it does seem to look at multiple parts to the issue. In one part, us as forum members being jaded on, what most people say, is a well crafted and high quality instrument because there aren't new "gimmicks" or cool features added. Another part is the continuing frustration as consumers (and, from the various posts from the company, I'm sure this extends to RIC as well) of the never ending backlog and long lead times for new instruments. Other folks are extremely happy about the unannounced new features, like the full width inlays, that have been introduced outside of NAMM and as part of the normal production cycle. Then you have the vintage reissue crowd who are anxiously waiting for the next retro guitar that will hopefully be released when the backlog gets reduced.
This forum tends to cover all aspects of owners/players/collectors and I think it brings out some good discussion and ideas.

Re: Have we become jaded?
Judging from the literature archive on the RIC website, RIC's predecessor, Radio & Televlsion Equipment Company, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1956.Scastles wrote:2012, but close enough.paologregorio wrote:2011 is the 80th Anniversary for RIC, yes? Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised.
RIC celebrated its 75th Anniv. in 2006
The 80th Anniv. would be in 2011.
