I think the only limitations to these guitars are in people's heads (or maybe their hands).

Australian hardcore band Mark Of Cain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kp0if5O19T4

The Ramones/garage influenced Exploding White Mice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABTOs9aiQjc

Garage popsters The Someloves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIU7qSr7 ... re=related

Droning Kiwi noise rockers Bailter Space (no solo, but the way the Ric is played ala My Bloody Valentine is pretty unique): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvvzruHPgTw

There will be a slight delay, depending on your connection, as your browser loads the audio

Intro solo - my mate Michael, along with first solo (two simultaneous tracks) - both on his '72 LP.

Second solo is me and my '86 360FG - played through 1979 Fender Concert 1-12" EV - gain switched on, Rat distortion. Recorded October, 1988 at Reciprocal Seattle - Mike Giancondino (Jack Endino) - engineer.
360/12C63 FG and several other guitars & basses not as nice

Who's this playing his custom 350 like Clapton?

EDIT: added a  because I know who it is, as I'm sure many others do, too.

I should have added a

Maybe I still can?

EDIT: Done.

Mike filled in for Eric for this special performance with George at the Royal Albert Hall in April of '92. Eric was ill, and George couldn't think of anyone better than Mike to do the job. Mike played the custom 350 and a '62 Jazzmaster with unfinished headstock.

Particularly good example of Ric lead work. Mike is one of the great underrated guitarists of our time. Not many of 'em can bring me to tears, but Mike gets the job done on many of the tracks of "Into the great Wide Open."

I have been advised that this was a lyp sync. I was having difficulty telling partly due to the Piano player that comes in mid way thru the Song and the weak picture. Still Carl did play a Ric 12 String on this & many others.
Here's one a friend sent me yesterday. No lip sync here (especially obvious when they botch the start of the second tune).

Carl was still a few weeks from his 18th birthday!

Any unique instrument has strengths and limitations, but it seems to me it's usually guitarists who know nothing about Rickenbackers who will say "they're only good for rhythm". These same guys usually think Rickenbackers are made in Germany, too.

When did this attitude start? Was it because Lennon was the rhythm player in the Beatles? It's like when people say "A Telecaster is only a country guitar". Stupid generalizations!!!

Lennon would do the occasional lead on his 325.
