....my question is, how does one determine the "list price" when discussing a model like a 4005 or 4002 or ANY reissue? ... and how would you determine demand ? ... would 100-200 people have to bombard Rickenbacker Inc with emails requesting said reissue?

This is a simple thing, really, in this sort of a boutique market, that's been done with limited production collectors' items for decades. However, it's definitely not the type of think RIC would do, because the only commitments to build that RIC honors, are purchase orders on current production, from dealers and distributors.

This way of determining demand and establishing sell price is pre-selling or subscribing, similar to what Franklin Mint, Danbury Mint, and other manufacturers in the collectors' field do.

Pre-selling requires a deposit, subscribing generally does not, unless it is a series of items involved.

A price or price range is established, based upon X number of items to be built. The manufacturer can then either base price on his own established limited production quantity, or see how many reservations he gets with deposit, and if he gets a minimum number of paid reservations on the pre-sell, he decides on production based upon his number of pre-sells. If the minimum is not met, either the price is adjusted, or the refunds are returned.

In the case of a subscription item, say there are four items in a series. The subscriber pays a deposit and agrees to pay for each item's balance at a fixed time in the future...usually before the item is shipped, or after an approval period once they have received the item. This goes on until the contract for all four items is fulfilled.

Prices will, of course, vary with item, quantity, country of manufacture, and specifications.

Well, I for one , would most certainly be "in" for a 4005 reissue....in case anyone is keeping track....

Chris, that is only of many scenarios, but it's one I'm familiar with.
